Even calling them insurance is a stretch. Many of them have annual coverage caps of $2,000, meaning that after the insurer has paid $2,000 in claims, the policyholder is on the hook for all other medical expenses. And a lot of these policies provide no coverage whatsoever for a stay in the hospital. This is why consumer advocates refer to them as junk or fake insurance. People who enroll in them often have been sold a false sense of security, only to find out when it’s too late that they’ve been sending hard-earned money to insurance

If you're 56 and your insurance costs $54, you have a worthless insurance plan that will not protect you in the event of a catastrophe, which is the whole point of insurance.

Florida Woman's Insurance Rate Increases 10X Under Obamacare

8:44 AM, Oct 28, 2013
by DANIEL HALPER

One Florida woman is going from paying $54 a month to $591 under Obamacare, CBS reports:

"For many, their introduction to the Affordable Care Act has been negative: A broken website, and now cancellation notices from insurance companies, followed by sticker shock over higher prices for the new plans," says a CBS reporter. "It's directly at odds from repeated assurances from the president."

"When I got this bill, I was outraged," CBS quotes a 56-year-old Florida resident who got dropped from her health care plan.

Her new plan will be 10 times higher than what she's paying now, jumping from $54 a month to $591.

"What I have right now is what I'm happy with, and I just want to know why I can't keep what I have," says the woman. "Why do I have to be forced into something else?"
That woman should just shut up and take it up the wazzu. I mean, why is she complaining? Doesn't she know by making her healthcare (laughable) I mean "affordable" she helps SO many other people who are (lazy mooches) less fortunate pay for their healthcare? How dare she think that working hard and being successful would pay off for her.

Read this article. Her health insurance was garbage that doesn't cover hospital stays. She's the one who would be depending on others if she ends up in the hospital. Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Out-Journalisms CBS News on Florida Woman’s Junk Insurance | Mediaite

Exactly. Because this woman was so poorly informed she would cost taxpayers a fortune if she had a serious medical issue on her existing health insurance.

It's here to stay....no turning back. The lady should be thankful, Husseincare is a blessing.....she should be kneeling to Dear Leader. What should make you REALLY mad is the fact that Husseincare is really just another massive power-grab by Big Brother. Governments are very, very corrupt and insane....the more power they have, the more you should worry.

So it's now Greta's job to chase after people with inadequate (according to Greta) insurance? If $54 is what that lady can afford to pay then that's what she can afford to pay. If Ms Van Susteren feels so strongly about that lady's policy and what she is paying I invite her to cover the difference herself.

Interesting how private individuals buying private insurance from private insurance company is a 'massive power-grab by government.'

The ACA is basically insurance regulations -- not too different from insurance regulations that have existed for 100 years or regulations mandating how nuclear power plants must be built. No sane person would argue that government mandating minimum specifications for nuclear power plants is a "massive power-grab by Big Brother."

It's the same thing with health insurance. Some people DON'T WANT a lot of coverage, they would rather just pay the bare minimum and "risk it".
and in the 1950's, that worked fine. people who didn't want good insurance could go die.

once we had Medicare in the 1960's and EMTALA in the 1980's, a significant amount of americans' healthcare risk became socialized, and healthcare became less of a market.

now if you can find a congressman who wants to return to a "free market" by repealing Medicare and EMTALA, i'd be interested to hear more about a grand scheme that returns the risk to the individual.
