I asked this question because the GOP chair said they don't have a women problem they have a single women under 30 problem(and its true).
First of all, where are your stats on this?

It makes perfect sense why Romney won the married women vote and Obama won the unmarried vote.

It has nothing to do with a girl voting Democrat when she is single and then suddenly shifting to the GOP when married. It has to do with demographics.

AGE
Obama won the youth vote -- Romney actually won the age 30 and up vote. Women 30 and up are likely to be married than 18 to 29.

RACE
Blacks have higher single mother rates nearly 3 times higher than whites. Obama won the black vote, Romney won the white vote.

URBAN AREAS
Urban areas have higher single mother rates. 3/4ths of Detroit children for example live in single mother homes. Obama dominated Detroit.

POVERTY
Women are more likely to live in poverty if they are not married and have kids as opposed to the opposite. Obama won the poverty vote. Romney won the affluent vote.

Most of those stats would not hold water. Obama won the vote for ages 18-44. This includes a lot of married, white mothers. You have some fixation on single mothers.

I suspect that married women tend to less often be the sole or primary breadwinner in the family relative to single women and when you have the right saying that women with the same jobs/skill sets getting paid significantly less then their male counterparts is "market forces" for which nothing can be done that is going to alienate more single women then married women.

Married women, older anyway, are living off their husband's money and do not want that questioned. Younger woman are living off their work and are tired of the old time discrimination that removes opportunity from their lives.

Your generalizations are about 30 years old. Single women are doing excellently on their own and so are married woman. Some people are not keeping up with the times. That "old time" discrimination is exactly that--old time. There are many reasons women vote democratic such as they are more concerned with social issues, are more open to change and do not want men making health care decisions for them.

Why do married women vote republican and single women vote democrat?

Each is voting for their 'provider'.

single = I may need government program support

married = keep more of our own means of support

"It takes a particularly noble Democrat to promote marriage and family. The strengthening of these institutions is not in the Democratic Party’s self-interest."

"...the Democrats know how important it is for them to expand dependency on government and to promote “alternative families” rather than the family that consists of a married man and woman with children."

"The Democrats know where their votes are."

I'd say that women should live in the metropolitan areas where they apparently make more than men. If they obtain only a generic degree, rather than math or science, and live in the burbs and rural areas, they will have to deal with outdated norms.
