The black frat & soror, don't let white people apply. Never have.
They are private associations. They get no federal, state, or local tax dollars.
It is not a business.
The right to assemble, is a valuable right to have. It is not a privilege.
I'm sure someone has corrected you by now, but the bolded above is NOT TRUE!
White people can and have become members of all the major historically black fraternities and sororities. You should check your opinions before you try to post them as facts.
White sororities are nothing more than a 4-year long slumber party for women whose primary goal is looking for the MRS. degree from potential high $$ earners. Black sororities are about community, connections and progress. The majority of black sorority members are active members for life and past the legacy on to their daughters and granddaughters. The same can not be said for white sororities.
Wanted to also agree with this.
Though it is surprising that so many people are fighting to keep people out of their organizations, let it be known that black frats and sorors are very welcoming of all types of members. Also, our organizations are active for life and provide many networking connections, which is why a lot of whites and Hispanics have joined. There are millions of active black frat and soror members who are lifetime members and are very active in their organizations.
They also provide a plethora of scholarship opportunities to members and the general public and I don't know one white frat or soror that can claim the same. All of the major black organizations do this, even the band frats/sorors.
Last post but LOL at the people who said the white pledges "get hell." LOL as if the black pledges don't get the same hell when they pledge. My husband is a member of a frat and the majority of my family are members of the two oldest black sororities/fraternities in the country. Hubby went through hell to pledge! He remembers it vividly and he went to an HBCU and is black and they had no white pledges that year.
And FWIW, I personally felt that at my specific HBCU, the white pledges were ensured membership due to so few of them pledging. I have never seen a white applicant denied. There were only 3 during my college years. All three became members. There was also about the same number of Hispanics, in general, there were more Hispanic frat/sorors on our campus across all organizations because they were greater in number than whites.
Also, again on the Masons. I have 4 confirmed great grandfathers (of various degrees) who were Masons and I am black as were they. Nearly all of my 8 great grandmothers (all but one) were members of the Order of Eastern Star. My older aunties even would like me and my younger cousins to join. They have been talking to us about it for years. I do think a few of my cousins have joined.

This ^. I am frankly SHOCKED a University which is usually a hotbed for liberalism etc allowed this. Kudos to them!
There are many black only and hispanic only organizations, on campuses all over the USA.
GOD forbid, there is a white only organization, or you get called the KKK.
Exactly right. Why would anyone want to join where they are not wanted?
Why do any blacks live south of the 38th parallel? If I were black, south is the last place I would live and patronize.
Uh; this is 2014, NOT 1964. Things change and word is many Black people are moving down South now because it's better in many ways than up north. Like as in better weather, cheaper, less racism and so on.
Who would even want to join an org that didn't want them? Is there a law that prevents them from forming their own Frats?
