Racism has been condoned at the University of Alabama as all-white sororities win their fight to ban black students from applying.
A group of 27 student senators blocked a bill to fully integrate fraternities at the establishment from reaching a public vote, with just five in favour, and two abstentions.
It has sparked outrage as critics blast the 'backwards' state of student societies more than half a century after the university first granted black students entry.
I been through the greek life before the golden age of the internet was here...been to tens of banquets. Meet the Greek functions, mixers etc......I have lifelong connections. I pledged HARD. I crossed with the LUL's. I have my stripes.
Do you?
To be truthful, as a grown man I find it quite unnecessary to prove anything to anyone especially to KIDS almost half my age by being humilated in public. If you really want to know, I earned my stripes in the United States Military during the war while you were being paddled in college.
I will not knock those who pledge, but I will never understand why people who do not come from a greek lineage would want to be one. In the begining they were denied from entering white fraternities and soros so they formed their own, but as far as I'm concerned there are still people who are trying to be something that they are not.

Groove Phi Groove!
It's just for camaraderie at the end of the day. I have a glue that will keep me attached to my line brothers for life...and there is a level of comfort in that. While I don't regret the experience, I do believe it is overrated. You don't need the frat life to make these relationships. They really are glorified gangs.
And youre right...the black frats started because they wanted to fraternize and couldnt in.white circles...and did that experience and historical reference resonate with subsequent chapters? Hell no it didn't because the black frats marginalize their own. Which is why I have absolutely no reservations about the premise of this thread.
Usually I am adamant against legislative coercion...but not in this instance. Not at all.
White sororities are nothing more than a 4-year long slumber party for women whose primary goal is looking for the MRS. degree from potential high $$ earners. Black sororities are about community, connections and progress. The majority of black sorority members are active members for life and past the legacy on to their daughters and granddaughters. The same can not be said for white sororities.
This is complete BS, my sister belonged to a sorority and I know for a fact they did much community service work among other things.
