Im surprised she likened sports to war, since thats a sensitive subject with the military, pat tillman et al. And in a weird way, Im disappointed she didn't target certain facets of the game that people have legitimate beefs about, like,the falling and acting to draw a foul/card.

Well, I'm a new American that will be passing on the real football (soccer) tradition. I know plenty more of us will do them same. The sport is here to stay.
In the US we love a little bit of sporting action on top of our advertising programs. Good god baseball and NFL are boring. You have to suffer through 3+ hours to get through a game that is 80% advertising. One reason soccer isn't popular in the US is because it is much more difficult for corporate interests to make money off of it since the game never stops to be drown in commercials. The only time advertisers can squeeze in is during half time when all you're really doing is taking a ****, getting some snacks, and then plopping down for the 2nd half. Not sure why we love to watch advertising so much during NFL games that contain at most only around 11 minutes of players moving during a 3+ hour game.
Well, the Europeans make up for that by advertising on the team jerseys.

You watch 90 minutes to possibly see 1 or 2 scores. American's need more scoring (for some reason). America's most popular sport, the NFL, has changed the rules to increase scoring.
I wouldn't lump soccer into any kind of category like that....you either like it or you don't, personally, its not a sport i watch, but i would never call it un American and i would never call it a non sport, that's just idiotic.
