You're right, there is more need to carry now than ever before, with all of the crime.

Currently. Nothing is cast in concrete. Especially in the government.

"As you've likely seen in the media, there has been a debate about whether guests in communities that permit 'open carry' should be allowed to bring firearms into Target stores. Our approach has always been to follow local laws, and of course, we will continue to do so. But starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target - even in communities where it is permitted by law.
"We've listened carefully to the nuances of this debate and respect the protected rights of everyone involved. In return, we are asking for help in fulfilling our goal to create an atmosphere that is safe and inviting for our guests and team members.
"This is a complicated issue, but it boils down to a simple belief: Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create."

My emphasis added. I see your link didn't bother to include that little bit of bolded info did they? Wonder why? Probably because the Huffington Post is a Liberal rag with no interest in reporting the real facts.

Nowhere did they say they were implementing a new, official policy on guns, except to say that they would continue to follow their current policy of taking the lead of state and local laws.

So, as much as the anti-gun complex needs a victory to gin up false momentum, please, at least have the dignity and self respect to report the facts as they actually are.
Yes read the statement, all of it. They will follow local laws, did I state differently. They will request...

Those nutburgers in the photo have some issues, I am sure they are doing this for effect or maybe it's just a coincidence that several people need to carry guns to pick up some deodorant. These people do more damage to your cause and sure fit the stereotype.

But starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target - even in communities where it is permitted by law.

A request isn't a rule, they are not saying you are not allowed to bring your gun in. They are saying they would like you not to bring your gun in. Big difference.

And they are perfectly within their rights to do so, even if it makes you uncomfortable. Gay Pride Parades make me uncomfortable, but they have the right to free speech, which I support.
BTW, what does a stereotypical supporter of the US Constitution look or act like?

They may request to their heart's content but if I happen to be carrying a gun and need something from their store I will go in a buy the item. A request is not an order or a law and a business is open to the public is open to all the public.

A person may forbid me to carry a gun onto their private property and I will comply with their wishes but a commercial business is not "private" as it is open to the public. As a country we have to build a wall between personal rights and corporate rights. Corporations are creations of the state to reduce investor's risk and have to comply will all the laws and regulations of their creator including non discrimination edicts. Refusing to sell to someone legally carrying a gun is overt discrimination. In most places carrying a gun is not a crime. Using it to commit a crime is.

So, a corporation made a rule/suggestion/ whatever you want to call it...

I thought you lefties hated corporations and they even made their own judgment call...which you hate even more, because they thought for themselves....

You lefties should be protesting because they thought for themselves and the USG did not get involed with them....
