I don't believe assault weapons bans make any sense individually. The mag size reduction I support.
I've seen live gun fights between gang members. They didn't fire more then 10 rounds between all of them, running the other direction is what they do. Mag size is not about gangs, or criminals. Its about mass murderers and people who feel they need to protect themselves from the Federal Government by force, if necessary.
Well I think restricting the magazine size so that when someone walks into a movie theater, they have to reload a few more times, adding precious seconds for some survivors and police to arrive on the scene.
The folks who think they are protecting themselves against the federal government, well, assault rifles don't stop tanks, bombs, and missiles. It won't stop an artillery round dropping on your head from 2 miles away. It won't stop anything the federal government has at its disposal. So if the army decides to side with the government, you're screwed, deal with it. No amount of magazines with 50 rounds is going to save you.

Previously owned guns are grandfathered in. No one is coming to your house to take any assault rifle which you have legally purchased before the governor signs this order, if it ever gets to his desk.
Now, if you want to go and buy a new one, it would depend greatly on what wording was used in the law, once passed.

"Grandfathering in" when doing these bans is just a generation away from a total ban. If a state believes something is so dangerious that it must be made illegal then they should confiscate the item from everyone (including police).
This ban is just more nonsense that doesn't prevent crime. It is another attack on ordinary citizens. It turns regular people into criminals.

So you want to restrict the rights of other people because of a statically event that kills few people every year then lighting?
Really? They dont? Well tell that to the Taliban, They use Automatic Rifles, and home made bombs and have kicked the ass of the worlds most powerful military with only 30,000 to 50,000 members.

Its the same reason why you can sell guns that are older now, they were grandfathered in. Ever seen pawn stars?
Yes, you can pass an assault weapon on to your child, just like you can any legally purchased firearm. Very few things are declared illegal retroactively.
If he was just advocating it as lip service and has no intention of getting it passed, that's fine. But if he's serious then he needs to be shouted down and have the citizens slap him around ( figuratively).
