1800 Palestinians have died in the current conflict. The vast majority were civilians.

Much of Gaza has been destroyed.
I'm not going to pretend that Israeli people have not been terrorized by the current conflict, but what has happened to ordinary, everyday Palestinians, has been worse. The consequences of what has happened are going to reverberate for a long time. And as usual, innocent people are going to pay the price.
Only 3 Israeli civilians have died and over 60 military, over 200 Palestinian children alone have been killed. I don't expect an answer to your question but it's not necessary, the numbers state everything you need to know. Israeli military lives are more important than civilians, they have never engaged in a real war and I don't expect that to change. Sending artillery on innocent civilians while the IDF watches from a distance is not really a war.

My point is that Israel bombed hospitals in Gaza on purpose. They have also bombed and shelled refugee centers. They shelled and killed 4 children playing on the beach. How could they, with all their "pinpoint" technical capacity, not have seen those children? They also killed a number of children who were playing on the roof-top of a building. They have had way too many "mistakes" and "misses" for it to not be on purpose. They are acting out of vengeance, hatred, and power.
And it is to the every-lasting shame of the American people that their taxes are paying for this bloodshed.
I'm not saying there are not extremists on the Palestinian side, but stop trying to pretend that Israel is fighting fairly, and not committing war crimes.
I agree with your last paragraph but expecting war to be fair is just silly. There is no fairness in war, war is dirty. Innocent people die. There is no reasons under the sun can justify killing innocent civilians. But do you really expect Israel just sit there and not fighting back?!

Have you any evidence of an Israeli poll showing that Israelis too seek peace? Any? Even a small poll?

A poll conducted among ex-pat Palestinians living in other countries would hardly parallel a poll among Palestinians who elected a terrorist org. to represent them would it? If 80% of them want peace why would they have elected a Rottweiler with rabies to sit on their front lawn and greet the visitors

You could just as well say that Israel "started it", with it's blockade and seige of Gaza, restricting the food, water, sewage services, education, employment, medical supplies and services, and freedom of movement and self-determination of the Palestinians of Gaza.
3000 rockets have been fired from Gaza to Israel. The vast majority have landed in the desert, not close to any settled areas, totally ineffectual. The "dome" system protects Israel from rockets that have better aim. Israeli citizens have bomb shelters and places to retreat to. The Gaza citizens do not.
It is an unfair fight and you know it.

If German Jews knew that they would have been pushed into the gas chamber during WWII, I would imagine 100% of them would have supported the war against Nazis.

Pew does polls in middle eastern countries all the time, even under dictatorships. You're just assuming something based on your own bias.

We all expect Israel to fight back but sending artillery into a courtyard near a UN school that injured 40 civilians in an attempt to kill 3 terrorists defies logic. This is a total disregard for civilian casualties.

Yes, innocent people die, but in this case nearly all of them are on the Palestinian side.
Fighting back would be destroying the tunnels on the Israeli side, and fighting the military of Hamas with their military, not killing over a thousand innocent people, and injuring about 6,000 more. Destroying the homes of civilians. How is that fighting back? It's not a defense. It's an military offensive assault on the Palestinians of Gaza.
You justify Israel's right to fight back, but not the rights of the Palestinians to fight back from the slaughter of their people.
