It's 10/15 - let's think about what has happened in less than one month:
Duncan reportedly first had contact with the pregnant ebola victim on 9/19 in Liberia, left for the US on 9/21, presented to the Dallas Hospital and was sent home on 9/25, and subsequently was admitted when his conditioned worsened.
It is 10/15 - less than a month since Duncan reportedly first had contact with the ebola victim in Liberia. We now have 2 confirmed cases of US healthcare workers with ebola from coming into contact with Duncan. One of the 2 workers' boyfriend is under observation potentially with ebola like symptoms. Some 70 other healthcare workers had contact with Duncan. The nurses' union describes how the hospital was completely unprepared. The nurses exposed to Duncan treated other patients. The nurses and other healthcare workers exposed to Duncan had contact with who knows how many family members, friends, the general public, etc.
In a story I linked a few days ago, US customs officials say 150 travelers a day on average arrive in the US that have traveled from or thru the countries hit hardest by ebola in Africa. How many could have ebola but, like Duncan if the reports are true, be asymptomatic.
A lot has happened in the less than one month since Duncan had contact with the ebola victim in Liberia on 9/19. Best case scenario: no one else has it and we are left with 2 healthcare workers fighting for their lives from a disease the victim they contracted it from didn't have less than one month ago.
What may the next 3-4 weeks bring? If you can't see how this COULD spiral out of control, exponentially - you probably aren't that smart. We all hope it won't. Who has confidence in our government to contain this if more Mr. Duncans show up in cities across the US?
Here are the correct dates of Duncan events:
9/15-Duncan has contact with the body fluids of pregnant girl in Liberia
9/19-Duncan departed Liberia for Brussels. There was a layover and change of carrier and terminal.
9/20- Duncan arrived in Dulles and another layover before connecting to DFW.
9/26- Duncan first presents to ER and after an assortment of tests is released.
9/28- Duncan is admitted to hospital.
9/29- Duncan diagnosed.
During his journey, Duncan had contact with thousands of other passengers and touched lever, faucets, food trays, glasses and used toilets, yet none became infected.
Like you, I have read on average, 150 people a day are traveling from the three infected countries and eventually connecting to flights to the US and are doing so in Casablanca and Brussels. This means that on a rolling basis, there are more than 3000 people in the US who may have higher odds of having become infected in Africa, within the previous three weeks. They are not all visa holders.
That NBC crew that hired the US cameraman in Liberia are amongst those who recently arrived back in the US, from Liberia. Many are volunteer aid workers and healthcare professionals.
Temporarily suspending visas for citizens of the three most infected countries might mitigate the number of inbound travelers.
Denying access to US citizens returning from the hot zone is another kettle of fish. How and where would one isolate and quarantine all of them?
Then's there's the pesky matter of how it is that no country outside of the continent of Africa has banned anyone traveling from/connecting the infected countries. Should the US ban all incoming international travel, flights, ships and autos?
I think this again is a failure right at the top. If we had the CDC from the get go make sight visits, teaching/supervising the proper protocol to handle ebola patients to hospital staff, we more than likely wouldn't have the issue of 2 nurses becoming infected and staff in our health care industry would have confidence to handle ebola.
Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong if the CDC has actually done such visits/training/managing on protocols in person at various hospitals but I haven't found such information anywhere.

Plenty of military facilities on the East and West coasts. With lots and lots of land and empty buildings.
These idiotic suppositions by some posters that protocols and plans are not in place and haven't been thought of are stupifiyingly ridiculous at best.
What they don't want to admit is that Obama doesnt want to enact these measures or anything close before election day. A full scale meltdown and Super Majoity of the Senate and House by Republicans could occur.

To start with, I'd require all health care workers, reporters, whoever that wants to go to Africa and return to the US to fly private charter flights. They don't fly on commercial flights, period. And quarantine them for the 21 days or whatever is thought to be adequate before returning to their home base.
And that can happen before the clowns figure out they should ban all people with passports from ebola countries with large outbreaks.
