If they'd had this approach to a guy selling single cigs for pennies back in July, instead of strangling him, they could have saved themselves a whole lot of grief.
Something tells me that slacking off now isn't going to gain them much support.

Place blame where blame is due.
Mr Garners life choices got him killed.
Along came a man named Pantaleo who aided in his early demise. That was Pantaleo's life's choice. It might be his legacy as NYPD officer. He's had lots of run ins with Blacks, so much so, that the city has settled several lawsuits against them because of HIM.

An irresistible force meeting an obviously immovable object.

Ridiculous...
In NY, selling single cigs on the sidewalk is a big enough deal that 5 cops need to rough up a guy for an infraction equal to jaywalking, when they could have just issued him a ticket and gone on to handle some other major crimes.
In NY, cops killing a guy for that infraction isn't a violation.
In NY, cops not getting a pat on the back from their mayor decide to react like a bunch of bratty 5 year-olds.
In some slanted viewpoints, there's no problem with that scenario.

A very small percentage of police account for a rather large number of the complaints, the fact that they face no discipline is exactly the issue.

Yes. Otherwise, I have no problem with the police. Pantaleo has "history" just like the man he killed. Why not just admonish him, bump him a couple of levels and let that be that? No...it now has to turn into this big farce. NYPD can never ever do anything wrong???? They (NYPD) have the nerve don't they?

NYC Police is the best in the world but it's really a tough situation to regulate a work force of 30,000 most of whom are out on their own. If Patrick lynch wanted to take some positive steps he could start by addressing the bad apples that are giving the department a bad name, very small percentage but it gives good cops a bad name.
Maybe it is time for the good cops to weed out the bad cops. They know which ones are the bad ones better than anyone else does.
I could name a few other groups that need weeding a lot more than LE.
