No, 100% isn't attainable. But there ought not be a way to lock the pilot out of the cockpit. It seems like that is an enormous loophole. Presumably this plane wouldn't have crashed if the pilot could get back in.

There are likely many possible tactics to prevent this happening again. We can obviously get a lot closer to 100% than we are right now.

Nope. The guy was as German as Bratwurst. He probably was depressed. Maybe his wife or gf just broke up with him. Maybe the pressure as a pilot was to much for him. Who knows.

Being depressed does not cause you to murder large groups of people. There is something more to this.

I wonder if the employer requires a psych test for pilots. Those out of control german unions probably reject such tests, and would fight tooth and nail any of their pilots being fired for suicidal tendencies.

Nice try on the breathless conservative fantasy complaint!

28yo... six figure income... if my gf told me it was over I would get two to replace her with within the hour! That would have to be some grade A punani to make me want to take 149 innocent people to Hell with me. In the history of aviation 10's of thousands of pilots have dealt with personal issues without resorting to murder/suicide. So... what it isn't: a break-up or medical diagnosis. What it might be? <shrug> post hypnotic suggestion? Political (Right Wing) Reactionism... maybe he was a closeted homosexual and the pilot was being especially effusive about the bodacious ta-ta's in First Class that he was going to chat up once they reached cruising altitude...

Yes, by father is a pilot and he says they always make sure two are left in the cockpit. He will have a flight attendant sit in the cockpit at times. We talked about this this morning when I asked him if he ever left his co-pilot alone.
