Despite all these allegations, Democrats will still vote for him.
Both sides of the aisle called for his resignation from the General Assembly when he went to jail. Morrissey obliged, triggering a special election, in which he ran as an independent and defeated Democrat and Republican candidates. He is out of the GA now because he filed to run for a state Senate seat outside of his district (again, as an independent -- your thread title having him as a (D) is an error). That seat is currently held by a Democrat (and the area leans heavily Democrat in general*), so perhaps we will see if what you stated holds.
* - I didn't say that it has a lot of Democrats just because of the nebulous nature of party affiliation in Virginia; we don't track it in voter registration (as a voter, you can't be a "registered Republican" in the eyes of the Commonwealth, for example), and you're free to vote in multiple parties' primaries for the same office, if the parties hold such elections (unless they fall on the same day).

But of course, for lunatic liberals, they see nothing wrong with it as long as there's a D behind the name. You can see the bootlicking on this thread already.

This "lunatic liberal" just wants to know how a (white man) can get away with impregnating an underage girl and get a slap on the wrist.
Of course, the question has already been answered, but it's still pretty damn peculiar.
But also really unfair. I met Shawn Kemp, and he is a super-nice guy. He also showed character late in his career when he walked a way from millions on a guaranteed contract when he could no longer really play. Also as far as I know, Shawn Kemp never dallied w/ under-age, so it is patently unfair to compare him to a sleaze-bag Democratic politician.
By law, I don't see how it can be consensual. He was slapped on the wrist for contributing to her delinquency as a MINOR.
Yep.
Translation: He was screwing her when it would have been statutory rape but the family isn't cooperating and we can only prove enough to hit him with the lesser offense.
I agree that race and political party have nothing to do with things here. The guy is just a scumbag.

No it wouldn't. Please read my first two posts in this thread (#37 and #39). There is no "statutory rape" in Virginia in the same sense that other states have it. The Class 1 misdemeanor to which Morrissey entered an Alford plea is Virginia's penalty for an adult having sex with a 15-17 year-old. It's the same penalty as reckless driving. Maybe we should call it reckless [redacted]
