They said Jackie did more good being first lady then Jack Kennedy did as President.
They make many sacrifices and receive an unfair heap of criticism for every unpopular decision their spouse makes. So how about you lighten up on Melania Trump and your rude comments about her like this ...

And? I have a lot of issues with Donald Trump being president but this, while not the standard choice, is definitely not worth a second glance. Surely we have grown past the notion that women are obligated to be unpaid employees as part of their husband's job. If Trump's wife wanted to volunteer to do it great, if not it's nice he found someone willing to fill that role. Frankly, of all the things we were selecting this election, Ivanka as First Lady was the only thing I would have felt positive about if I knew that was an option.
I understand your point.
Having said this vetting potential cabinet members, being on phone calls between POTUS Elect and foreign leaders and sitting in on meetings between the POTUS Elect and Titans of technology is beyond the scope of the role/ responsibility of a FLOTUS Elect.
This is a bizzare situation, made moreso given Trump's adult children are supposed to take over the 500+ multinational businesses in 2 dozen countries.
Son, Donald Jr, also supposedly involved in running Trump LLC has been involved in selecting cabinet members. Had a great influence on getting his buddy and fellow wild game hunter selected as Sec of Interior.
Blurring of roles (Trump LLC/First Family) already being demonstrated.
most of the non spousal FLOTUS's were some relative of a widowed president. not all were daughters. However, Thomas Jefferson's daughter did from time to time fill that role. There have been at least a dozen instances of First Ladies not being the wife of the President. that would include some who filled the role, without the title.
I believe James Buchanan's nice was called something like "White House Hostess" but she was essentially First Lady.
Daughters, Nieces, Sisters have all filled the role from time to time. There is nothing "president setting" about Ivanka taking these responsibilities.
AND I do not believe there has been a statement from TheDonald that Ivanka is "first lady".
upon further review...
The first "First Lady" was James Buchanan's nice Harriet Lane. She assumed all the public roles that Presidential wives typically filled before her but since she was not the wife of the president, the press began to call her the "First Lady".

Buchanan was unmarried and his niece served as acting FLOTUS with duties like figuring out the seating arrangements at formal dinner parties. This link suggests that there were 13 acting First Ladies, most of whom were relatives of widowed presidents.
I suggest some reading on the history of Edith Wilson for those who feel the FLOTUS is nothing more than arm candy who don't serve important causes while alongside their spouses in office.

Trump is President. Trump and the republicans have absolute authority over our government and will wield power accordingly. No republican politician will dare stand up to Trump. Trump will take what he wants for his own benefit as he always has.
He will dictate who will serve as First Lady....or even if there will be a First Lady-type office. I suspect the office will be phased out in quick order after the inauguration.
It's a new world. Stop trying to make the old rules fit Trump world.

None of them vetted potential cabinet members, listened in on phone calls or participated in business meetings.
well, there are better resources than Wikipedia. I provided one that points to around 2 dozen.
There have been first ladies who were more involved. like Edith Wilson and Hillary Clinton (remember how democrats suggested we had elected a president and a co-president back then?) and others like Margaret Taylor who hated the very idea of doing anything associated with the presidency.
As for what Ivanka Donny and Eric are currently doing in advising their father, I am not sure what the issue is. He is not president. Neither he, nor his children have taken any salary of any kind. His adult Children are accomplished individuals that he trusts.
And there is even some precedent that might be problematic for those of you on the left.
President John F. Kennedy nominated his brother Robert to be Atty. Gen. Robert was a very close confidant to John F.
It is interesting that President Kennedy didn't necessarily want Bobby as AG, however their father ruled the roots and forced John F's hand.
Joseph Kennedy MADE PICKS even at least 1 pick that the incoming President DIDNT WANT.
The history around this is full of shenanigans. Joseph's pick of Bobby as AG was controversial. In fact had there actually been a vote on the floor of the senate, it wouldn't have passed. Instead of an actual vote, the Senate Leader allowed a "voice vote" then ruled the nomination passed.
Bobby had no experience whatsoever. Democrats today tell me Mr. Robert F. Kennedy was a fanatic AG.
