How would any of that mean millennials are spoiled brats? While it's frankly stupid to try and pin this on one particularly thing, but the main reason is probably time. While we (millennials) went through schooling, we were basically told from the very beginning that all of this was to get a job. I went to high school to go to college to get a job; I was told, as were most millennials (who are statistically more educated and working just as much as previous generations, according to this article), that our value is measured in economic success.

And in fairness, so were previous generations to some extent. But millennials work more and get paid less. There is no 40 hour work week. Most people work nearly 50 hours (including at home) and are paid for only 40 hours. And of course, they're paid less. A 40 hour work week rewarded far more income in 1970 than it does in 2017. As has been noted elsewhere, many married millennials are dual income households, meaning they're either putting of having kids or putting their kids in daycare, both seen as deplorable by many in the older generation. But those dual income households often still only barely exceed a net income of a single income household in the 1970s. While millennials are blamed for the downfall of western society for not raising their kids the way "we're supposed to," we're also told we're entitled for wanting to be paid more or not go into debt to get a job or if we get sick.

But yeah, **** millennials and **** introspection, right?

We're in Medford and Everett now, and are blown away by how much absolute dumps are being sold for. $600,000 for a 3 bed, 1 bath condo on my street far from the T!

I'm also a stage IV cancer survivor. I live here because my team of specialists are here (and with frequent visits, I would need to make quarterly trips/time off of work if I lived elsewhere for at least the next few years) and I have an employer who is paying for a master's degree here. We plan on leaving after I finish my master's and my medical needs are reduced, but the fact is that the Boston area is the best place in the world, by a multitude of many, for my field.
Of course your health should certainly be a priority over anything else.

I consider all that area to be city sprawl, that is why those crazy prices. Same with many cities because everyone wants to be in one supposedly. It does seem like a lot of millennials prefer the city and not driving an hour or more to work. I know a lot of people who commute because of affordability and desire for more space. Again, choices. You could work in Boston and commute north to the NH/Mass border for cheaper real estate. I would imagine at this time that area could almost be considered suburban Boston due to sprawl and demand for real estate in Mass. Maybe someday northern Maine will be a surburb of Boston.

Good luck to you, and things don't have to be perfect to marry. Everybody thinks about the downsides but there are a lot of benefits and rights attached to legal marriage.

But even a more modest wedding can be unaffordable for most young people .

Good luck on the goal of retiring early . Many people seem to have it in their mind that they have to work until their 60s at least because "that's when people retire " .
Oh, baloney! You can get married at the courthouse by a JP for the cost of the license.

so true, and you can also have a modest wedding inexpensively, maybe 2 - 3 Grand.
