Senator Collins is on Morning Joe now, and she said when she was an intern during Watergate, amidst of all the controversy things were getting done. However, this current administration is not showing leadership on what it wants to get done. There hasn't been any policy proposals for the legislature to work on. Just controversy after controversy.
Nixon had a 3 1/2 year period in office before the Watergate burglary. There was plenty of official crime, not just Watergate. There was targeting of enemies by the IRS. The Ellsberg psychiatrist break-in. Solicitation of donations in the form of cash. What Nixon did was pass the Democrats' agenda, such as wage and price controls, OSHA and the EPA. Really very little of the Republican agenda passed.
In Trump's case the investigations and leaks started before he took office. Also the investigations are looking for crimes. Watergate was different. It started with a middle of the night burglary accidentally caught by hotel security and the DC police. There was an actual crime to investigate and Nixon and his henchmen blocked the investigation.

I read Samuel Dash's book. He was the counsel to the committee. It was hardly an idyllic performance. Baker play-acted cooperation but was really quite obstructive, at least at first. No one really wanted to follow that to the door of the White House where of course it led. Here they're out for blood since Trump is out to destroy the Washington bureaucracy.
....has changed everything. In Watergate news was not interactive. We all got our news from the same sources...POV reporting was relegated to the Editorial page.
Now every 3rd person sees themselves as a 'Citizen Journalist'. The vast majority of these are kinda making it up as they go along.
Now, our News resembles propaganda....spun to manipulate. I'm not just talking about the MSM--Many on social report the news they wish it to be..instead of what it is.
Still too soon to determine. Watergate and the surrounding crimes, investigation, hearings unfolded over a span of 2 or 3 years. This is early days for Russiagate.
All I remember from the Watergate era is that my mother was glued to the TV every day and as a kid I thought it was deadly dull, nor did I understand what all was happening.

This is far worse for several reasons, one dealt with cheating in an election he was going to win hands down anyway, the other smacks of collusion with a foreign government and possible Treason. Nixon took the smart path when faced with impeachment, he resigned, trump will be dumb enough to attempt kill the investigations and if impeached try to get his minions to rise up and save him. Trump will go down as one of the worst Presidents in US History, and his fan base will always love him, it is what cult members do.
Ironic that Nixon was NOT impeached, but Bill Clinton was!
He was about to be and knew he was going to be removed from office, Clinton got censored and a slap on the hand. Trump will show you what Nixon would have gotten had he tried to stay in office.
Is that why he keeps trying to do fight Russian sanctions? Is that why he wants the investigations stopped. If he has nothing to hide then he should support the investigations and do all he can to help move them forward, but instead he hires Lawyers and talks of firing everyone involved. The more trump whines about the investigations the more the American People want them to continue because trump himself makes himself look guilty. If trump cannot stop the sanctions then Putin will probably throw his then useless sock puppet to the wolves and laugh his arse off over how easily we were played.

One of the biggest differences between Nixon and Trump investigations is that the one for Nixon took years. This current one is moving at a very fast pace, and is being aided by Trump himself. Nixon was smart enough to keep quiet and not put fuel on the fire...........Trump, not so much. The stupid SOB can't keep his mouth from digging his hole deeper.

And why is he supporting selling cybersecurity software to the FSB?
