I don't think even Trump is THAT stupid. He's a pretty dense fool ... but I am sure he's heard of Watergate and what happened after Nixon fired Archibald Cox.

Considering that Jim Comey's testimony revealed that the special counsel was appointed under false pretenses or at least presumptions, it would be the right thing to do. Basically you have a disgruntled ex employee admitting publically that he leaked information in violation of the spirit of, if not the letter of, his employment agreement to try and get back at the guy who fired him.

Did Fox and Friends run a story about why Trump should fire Mueller? If not then Mueller's job is currently safe.

Comey's testimony reveled nothing. He still has to follow the rules regarding classified information.

My only problem is the same huffy Senators who are whining because the 3 Intelligence heads and the Deputy Attorney General wouldn't answer their questions (at the Senate hearing the day before Comey), yielding instead to the Special Prosecutor's investigation, are the same whining Senators who called for a Special Prosecutor. When the Special Prosecutor was announced everyone else should have dropped their hearings.

This Senate thing is just a bunch of lawyers who have nothing to show for why they should be re-elected, doing a lawyerly activity that is in their wheelhouse, to fool the voters into thinking that they are doing something.

I agree with this.

When Mueller was selected as the independent Counsel, the decision was praised by both Democrats and Republicans. Mueller is believed to be very thorough and by the book. So firing him would definitely raise some eyebrows, even with the GOP.

That being said, even the most hardcore Trump supporters on City-Data would be worried if Trump fired Mueller.

Comey punked the Democrats. The intended target(s) of the Special Counsel are the Democrats - Trump will never fire Mueller.

I think they'll find some way to justify it. Trump could gun down an entire kindergarten classroom and his supporters would find some sick or utterly absurd excuse

I agree. They are already building the case for why he should go and how to justify it when it happens. To them, there is literally nothing Trump can do that isn't heroic.
