true, guam is a legit military target, and if you want to start a war, then by all means shoot at it. but if oyu dont want a hooting war, then i recommend staying away from it.

B. "Millions" would not die from one nuclear bomb anywhere in California. Nuclear weapons are not that magical.
1) A nuke in LA would kill millions. For example, Hiroshima and Nagasaki lost roughly 1/3 of their population to relatively tiny nuclear detonations. (10-20 kiloton).

2) Our main nuclear assets that would decimate NK are on submarines.

the total loss of life in both hiroshima and nagasaki was about 240,000 people total. granted the output of both bombs was barely 35 kilotons, but NK doesnt have anything larger than that in their inventory, and likely wont have for some time to come.

that said however even a 15 kiloton nuke in LA might cause a death toll above 1,000,000 people.

How likely are EMP attacks? Or the better question should be how possible are they?

China has nearly 1.4 billion people and an enormous and difficult geographic terrain. We could forcibly draft every single citizen against their will, and still lose badly.

Land war in Asia is never a good idea.

Ha Ha - they own a good chunk of the USA - corporations, real estate, etc.

Remember - we have a "free market" system and they have more people....and therefore eventually more wealth (already a massive number of billionaires).

And since the USA is always for sale.....well, bye bye Saudis, hello Chinese.

You comments makes it seems as if America is owned by "the people". It's not. Someone (not me!) decided long ago that it could be purchased.

Besides, we could not survive without Chinese products.

Of course, in addition to this is our current "criminal" administration here. China does a lot of good things for countries all around the world.

So keep on spouting about how much control we have over our masters. We don't.

Reading these threads it's as if Americans desire yet another war. So be it. I tried to talk folks out of Iraq but they wouldn't listen. This time we won't be picking on some a-rabs with a couple scuds (China).

War with China would be unthinkable because nuke is the ONLY way it can go. They have intentionally kept their nuke count low to avoid "arms races" with the US and Russia, yet it would be their only choice if we decided to even touch their mainland.

Watch what you wish for. Then again, I think enough Americans hate the world (their lives) enough that they might welcome the end of it. After all, that was the purpose of much of the Trump vote "we'll show them by creating chaos".

If you have kids...think of them. Basically the world would take a century or more to recover....even then, we'd have to deal with the DNA mutations, etc.

My suggestion is to stop talking about and reading about nukes. Words and thoughts tend to turn into deeds when enough attention is put into them.

The US does not have any nuclear weapons or nuclear weapon-equipped ships based in Japan. They may transit, but transiting ships are chancy to target.

The B-1 bombers at at Guam are immediately targetable threats and, more importantly, are the openly admitted threats that make Guam an undeniable military target.

Who are the bellicose actors? The US and North Korea. If North Korea attacks only the US, there always remains the possibility of neutrality from everyone else.

What are Kim's goals? Although he may despise Japan, his real goal is to unify Korea under his dominion, and only the US stands in the way of that goal. Attacking Guam--the primary American base of operations, where nuclear weapons are stored and where most that are close to him are based--is the necessary target.

If Kim attacks, he can't not attack Guam. He doesn't necessarily have to attack anyone else. He must attack Guam.

The largest DPRK test has been estimated at 17 kt, which is smaller than the US' first test and smaller than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs...and it's unlikely they can put anything more powerful on a missile.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima were, relatively speaking, made of sticks with an extremely high population density. Judging from the demographic work we did of the Soviet Union during the Cold War, no, a nuke on LA would not kill "millions."

But the North Korean's can't target subs. They have to target what they can target, and that's Guam.

And that is a point.

The Chinese people are disciplined enough that if the government said, "We will all tighten our belts for a month to punish the US," they could stop production for 30 days or longer of everything they make.

That would send most of the US economy right down the tubes--very few US companies can go a month without sales. The stock market wouldn't recover for a generation.
