The Khans had a perfect right to speak at the Democratic convention. Trump's attacks on them were vile and disgusting.
At the Republican convention, they were chanting "Lock her up" and working with the Russians to get a more Russian-favorable platform. Not much to be proud of there.
The Khans were used by the Democrats plain and simple.
I never said they didn't have a right to speak wherever they want. That doesn't negate the fact they were used for political purposes.
Mr. Khan chose to let the Democrats shamefully use him and his sons death for political purposes. Once you decide to play politics with something you have to know you are in the fray with politicians.

I don't see the two as equivalent. I think it would be great if everyone let the dead rest in peace. That being said, it is odd that a President did not personally call one of his top generals when his son died in combat.
The Kahns were at the convention to state that their Muslim son was a patriot. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I admire their courage.

Trump campaigned on stirring up his racist base. Lots of talk about banning Muslims.
At the Democratic convention, the Kahns explained that their Muslim son was a loyal American who gave his life for his country.
Mr. Kahn was not attacking Trump. He and his wife were attacking his racist anti-Muslim message.
I realize that as his campaign manager, for however brief a time, it made perfect sense to encourage Trump to attack these Gold Star parents. I'm sure his racist base was delighted.
It was still a despicable thing to do.
He should be ashamed of himself, but I doubt he is.
Defending the notion that Gold Star parents are fair game for political attacks is truly sickening.

Trump has presented no proof whatsoever and Kelly did not disagree that Trump told Mrs. Johnson that her husband knew what he signed up for.
If you have proof Trump did not say this unfortunate remark, now would be the time to present it.
The Gold Star family appears fine with Wilson telling the world what Trump said and have confirmed that he was disrespectful towards them.
Whereas Kelly has let it be known for years that he did not want his son's death politicized.
