What really doesn't make sense is how most conservatives want to keep weed illegal to "protect the children" and "preserve the moral fabric of society"
Actually, they don't. So yes, it doesn't make sense.
No, it is not what they believe, it is what you believe they believe.
It's true. You gotta remember the poster grew up in a state required to enter the union as a dry state in 1907. Consequently, Oklahoma attracted many highly conservative, prohibitionist Christians to move there until the ban on alcohol was repealed in 1959.
And mountains of opposition from non Christians too. Like Obama.
Wrong. I wish you conservatives who support legalization would stop bringing up Obama and start pressuring your own party to evolve on this issue. Right now, it's Republicans (mostly the religious right) standing in the way of legalization.
On social issues, Obama pretty much went with public opinion and it wasn't until the very end of his Presidency that public opinion on cannabis legalization really started to turn a corner. He did the same thing on gay marriage, opposing it when he ran in 2008. By 2012 public opinion was really coming around on the issue so he went ahead and supported it.
Texas will hold out for a while longer in my opinion but it's also a big money state with some large, progressive metropolitan areas. I can definitely see the state legalizing within the next 10-15 years.
I think it will be a 30-50 year wait in states like Oklahoma and other highly right-wing, religious authoritarian states.
If Oklahoma voters on June 26th approve of the state question to legalize medical marijuana, I think you can reduce that wait for legal rec marijuana to 5-10 years. As in casino gambling, there is surely additional big money in giving North Texans another reason to come to Oklahoma--legal rec pot, this assuming Texas doesn't beat Oklahoma to legalizing rec pot.
If opposition to medical marijuana can't come up with the money for mass reefer madness adds in the media, then I think the size of the yes vote may surprise you.

Yes, it's quite a drive to a dispensary from here.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., plans to introduce legislation on Friday to decriminalize marijuana on the federal level, adding a high-profile advocate in the effort to decriminalize, legalize and normalize marijuana use in America.
Schumer's legislation would remove marijuana from the list of scheduled substances under a 1970 law that classifies marijuana as dangerous as heroin for legal and regulatory purposes. It would establish funding for women- and minority-owned marijuana businesses, require more research on the drug's public health impact, and maintain federal authority to regulate commercial advertising, similar to existing regulations for tobacco and alcohol.
Been waiting for a while for this sadly I think I won’t see it in my lifetime.

No, apparently not. It will happen only over GOP dead bodies.
