The average is now size 14? It seems just a decade or two ago that the average was somewhere between 8 - 12.

American women aged 20 years and above weigh an average of 168.5 pounds (lbs), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Height-wise, the average adult female is 5 feet 4 inches, and her waist measures 38.1 inches.

Sizes have changed. What used to be a size 12 is now a size 16. That's why there is a size 00 now.

She isn't obese. She's a typically-sized American woman.

I know that they are skinnier than average. A bit skinny but these woman are hefty. I wonder what the median is. Not the average. You can only go so low and thats a minute segment of the population but 14 seems high.
Granted I've seen a ton of overweights, especially the children. That's the bad part.

There's mainstream fashion and there's plus-size fashion.

The average American woman is larger than the sizes that are carried in department stores.
