The OP is generally true, but its been true for a long time. Only go to college for engineering, or to be trained for a medical profession. Humanities and Arts are a waste of time and hard earned money.
Hold up. I thought today’s conservatives were all about nationalism.
Why care about what any grads in other countries are doing?
I mentioned the comparison not because I’m consumed with what is happening elsewhere in the world, but concerned with what is happening here .... I thought the point was basic enough to not need an explanation.
As an aside, the continued decline in educational outcomes of Americans will be another excuse you liberals use to support the need for massive amounts of immigrants from other nations to provide the expertise and qualifications that the American workers lack ... even though it was liberal policies that created the situation to begin with.
This is the reoccurring theme endemic to liberal thinking and policy making .... you identify a problem ... implement a solution that ultimately creates an even bigger problem than you began with, followed by more solutions that produce the same counter productive results.
The worst part is, you all never learn from past mistakes ... which is sadly the differentiator between curable ignorance, and incurable stupidity.

No. It wasn’t basic enough. It’s not a “basic” topic.
Remind me again...was it a liberal or a conservative administration that gave us No Child Left Behind?

Nope. Not valid. Never has been.

My daughter-in-law was a journalism major and works at Stanford University and makes more money than probably 80% of the people in this forum, and that's not unique. Tech companies hire a lot of liberal arts majors.

^^^ This old trope is just factually incorrect. If one is looking to work in Corporate America - they LOVE liberal arts majors because they can SPEAK and Write - two valuable commodities in any business.

When I was growing up a patriotic boomer in the 50's nobody had to tell us the USA was the one exceptional nation on the planet, nothing else like it. We just knew that, and it was true. Where conservatism went off the rails is we thought capitalism and exceptionalism were so obvious we ASSUMED the whole population would see that like we did. Not so,as we see today. The leftists and socialists INSURED the young heads full of mush seeking a higher education would only be given the liberal point of view whenever possible, starting in the 60's. So today we have high level schools that started out as bastions of Christianity who will shout down anything biblical in a nanosecond. Almost none that started out judeo-Christian have ended up that way they are secular and proud of it. So we see the fruits of their twisted dark views alive and well in the young and younger today. They listen to CNN and NPR and think they get the news. Patton, Eisenhower, and my uncle who was a flight engineer on a B-29 wouldn't recognize this place today. It makes me sick to see what is tolerated and encouraged by leftists today. Flag burning, open revolt, harassment of any conservative officials.....it will not end well. Those who though the USA wouldn't last and would eventually implode from within may be correct in the end..........what a sad thought..........
Do you have a link to a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article which backs up your claim that "colleges today are nothing more than leftist indoctrination centers..."? I'd love to see what the experts (not an amateur like yourself) have to say.

Of course they don't, it is just something rattling around in their heads ! Education to Trump supporters is like poison.........after all , look at who they voted for. No one with any education would have made that blooper.

I see this as a frightfully narrow mindset, and I suspect it is the attitude that leads to so many over-generalized/unsubstantiated claims and logical fallacies found in forums such as this. I'm sure that not all conservatives share the view expressed above, but I suspect that this attitude is far more likely to be found among conservatives than among liberals. A key to creative healthy thinking and constructive dialogue is a willingness and an ability to thoughtfully consider and comprehend alternative perspectives on controversial issues. I don't doubt that some humanities classes are poorly taught, but for a well-taught humanities class, the primary emphasis ought to be (and generally is) focused on critical thinking and research skills. The idea is not to just spoon-feed people factual/technical knowledge but, rather (in line with what that really famous guy said a couple thousand years ago) the idea is to "teach them how to fish."
Just to be clear: Humanities classes are not necessary or sufficient for learning critical thinking abilities, but judging from the level of "debate" in these political C-D threads, I suspect that these skills generally tend not to simply seep into people's brains very well from everyday experience.
BTW: This is the sort of thing I had in mind in my previous post when I said this:
