We've been hearing these same whiny allegations for years now.

The question is: IF they're true and that's a big IF, WHY are rightists such slackers that they've done nothing about it? Other than the occasional bogus real estate 'university' that is.

Is whining their one and only talent?

I'm asking the same thing.......why did we roll over and let socialists run the schools.......so short sighted and obvious as to be unbelievable......

To answer that you have to buy into the story that socialists run our schools which is just plain nonsense.

Probably because conservatives only care about making money and to hell with everyone else.

The leftists and socialists INSURED the young heads full of mush seeking a higher education would only be given the liberal point of view whenever possible, starting in the 60's. So today we have high level schools that started out as bastions of Christianity who will shout down anything biblical in a nanosecond. Almost none that started out judeo-Christian have ended up that way they are secular and proud of it. So we see the fruits of their twisted dark views alive and well in the young and younger today. They listen to CNN and NPR and think they get the news. Patton, Eisenhower, and my uncle who was a flight engineer on a B-29 wouldn't recognize this place today. It makes me sick to see what is tolerated and encouraged by leftists today. Flag burning, open revolt, harassment of any conservative officials.....it will not end well. Those who though the USA wouldn't last and would eventually implode from within may be correct in the end..........what a sad thought..........
I assume it depends on what you study. I am sure the engineering, pharmacy, and physical science majors just want to get the skills and the degree so they can get a job. At the other end are the ____ studies majors. Everyone else is in between. Problem is college administration are caving in to some students and ignoring the rest.

How did that Evergreen college in OR do with enrollment since the public meltdown. Same question re UMissouri Columbia?

Uh, love, you also said you doubted that Canada, Australia, the UK, and Germany could be considered to have exemplary education systems. Yes?

That I did, sugar. Doubting their cred as top-notch education systems does not mean that I regard our own system as a good one. It's worse than at least two of those you mention, but I'll eagerly await your data.

I've already provided data, which puts educational outcomes of heterogeneous countries like Canada, Australia, the UK, and Australia -- not just homogeneous ones, as you theorized upthread - significantly above the outcomes of the US. If you are skeptical of the data in the Pew report, then provide the data to disprove it. You're a fellow educator, after all, so you know how to locate and identify authoritative information.

Apparently, you are unable to have an intelligent discussion without resorting to the kind of rudeness commonly used on City Data and other online forums (never mind the juvenile over-use of icons). Meanwhile, I think you said you graduated around the same time as I did, which puts you roughly around the same age as I am. Old enough to be passed that shi*. Yet...you're a teacher. And, like me, a parent.

But, yeah, I just can't imagine what the problem could be with American education. I can't even guess as to why American students today consistently exhibit such immature, disrespectful behavior in the classroom that it routinely undermines discussion and learning. That's a real puzzle.

Well, MANY foreign students apply to colleges in Canada, Australia, and the UK, as well. But what does that have to do with the data in the Pew report?
