I heard that the ruling was partially based on the fact that him not following protocol that the WH has in regards to interacting with the president, that his 1st amendment rights overrides that.
Doesn't this open the door to more and more disruptions? This doesn't make sense to me, there needs to be order and protocol in how the press interacts with the president and the WH staff.
The reporters are there to "report" not have a dialog/debate.
You obviously misunderstand the purpose of a WH press conference. It's very different from an official statement by the president. For that a president comes out and makes a statement and may or may not take questions.
In a press conference, the reason it is being held is specifically for the press to question the president on issues of the day.
Unfortunately, Trump does not know how to deal with questions he doesn't like and that hit too close to the bone. Mostly questions that ask for some verification or proof of the most recent claims he has made on twitter. Whenever he is asked for backup on a subject, he goes ballistic.
Trump just doesn't like questions.
Questions and answers are the sole purpose of a press conference.
Trump may be irritated, but after he calms down, the publicity-seeking pugilist in him will realize this is great for his brand. Trump is in his element when he's engaged in a controversy, and he knows his adoring fans love a good fight, so he will no doubt make the best of this one. Acosta and CNN will do the same.
I'm not a trump fan at all but Acosta has been a major major D HEAD about how he asks questions for so long now that I hope Trump looks him right in the face and then doesn't take any of his questions.
He's a activist disguised as a Journalist and if anyone can't see that they are simply blind.
Or, wait a minute, I have something that Trump might do that would alleviate this problem. How about if Trump ACTUALLY ANSWERS THE QUESTION ACOSTA (and others) ASK ? It is a very simple concept, a reporter asks a question, and, instead of Trump making some snide remark (You are stupid...That is racist...etc) How about he stand up there and give an honest, straightforward answer.
Although many of you consider Trump the Supreme Ruler, he is not. He is our employee, put there to do things for WE Americans. Trump has set himself up for all the turmoil and chaos, because he simply refuses to acknowledge the fact that he IS going to be asked tough questions, and that he owes his employers (us) a truthful, direct answer.
I know they don't do that in Banana Republics, and Trump would love to do what they do, but we are going to hold his feet to the fire until he realizes he owes us answers. Stop acting like a fool, Trump, answer the questions and move on.
So is this setting a precedence allowing all press the blessing to conduct themselves like spoiled children. No civility, respect, procedure, Roberts rule of order?
I guess the only recourse may be to end briefings.
[quote]President Donald Trump doesn’t like Jim Acosta’s questions.
Neither did Raúl Castro when the CNN journalist questioned the Cuban dictator about the taboo subject of political prisoners on live Cuban and worldwide telecasts.
The news conference was beaming live across the nation. The country’s leader was hunched over on the podium before reporters. CNN’s Jim Acosta gripped a microphone and fired off a tough question.
“Why do you have Cuban political prisoners?†Acosta asked. “And why don’t you release them?â€
Quote:
But handlers did not swoop in to grab Acosta’s microphone. The reporter — whose own father was a Cuban exile — was not hauled out of the room. His credentials were not tossed. Instead, the Cuban leader grumbled out a non-answer. “Give me a list of the political prisoners and I will release them immediately,†Castro said.
To Trump, Acosta asked a question about his inflamatory rhetoric on immigration and Trump did not like that and so he tried to shut down Acosta and his question.
Reagan hated Sam Donaldson for very similar tactics.

No need for all the drama. Press briefings will be as they always were. Sheesh. Acosta may be a bit much, the Trump can't just ban journalists he doesn't like.
Maybe Crooked Trump can find a former male prostitute turned reporter to ask easy questions. You guys remember Jeff Gannon that asked Bush Jr. questions right?
