And gerrymandered or electoral college democracy means that 49% of the people can rightfully kill 51%. Strange definition of freedom. So much for the will of the people.
Actually, it doesnt, because the Constitution gives the national government very limited power. If it wanted to kill 51% of the national population the Constitution would need to be amended, which requires almost unanimous agreement. Then, there would be additional checks and balances. Then, citizens would be able to defend themselves because are guaranteed the Right to Bear Arms.
Thank God our Founding Fathers were aristocrats who wanted to protect us against Democracy a.k.a. mob rule.
They have no clue, that the USA was not created for the collective. Like all other nations.
The USA is unique. Nothing else like it. Nothing as powerful. Nothing as prosperous.
The more they try to make us like all the others, the less powerful and less prosperous we become.
America, like every other society in history, only succeeded due to human voluntary organization, not the exploitation of others by a few.
Individualism is about the right for a few to enslave the majority.
The whole point of America is that it's every man for himself. The reason our ancestors traveled here was to get rich and be free. They did not immigrate here to work for "good of society." You can immigrate to Cuba if that's your goal. Personally, I am business for myself.
I disagree somewhat.
People are herd animals. Americans can be individuals with rights in the herd and as individuals can join together or not through the free association protection guaranteed them in the constitution to keep government in check. Both as individuals or as a group. The individual can be a grain of sand and a part of the beach at the same time. Its about freedom of choice.

Having a decentralized state or a state with less power has nothing to do with direct democracy.
Direct democracy exists on the grassroots level and is part of human organization outside of state functions. Direct democracy exists in all our interactions with each other and forms a mutual society.

The Neanderthals became extinct at the hands of the very individualistic modern humans.
Neanderthals live on in the blood of almost everyone who lives outside of Africa: https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/neanderthal/. The only true 100% homo sapiens are Africans who never left the continent. The rest of us had ancestors who decided to party down with the cousins.
They say most of us have about 2% Neanderthal DNA. I think I am on the high side with at least 4% (If you could see me, you'd know why I say that too).
