Shouldn't food inspectors be essential? Who's the idiot that decided food inspectors were non essential? The FDA can just make them essential if it's a problem. I work in government, management can make anyone essential that they want to. The reason all these positions across our government aren't essential that end up causing problems during times like these is purely political.

This starts the clock on them being released in the usa. It is all about globalist goals of many in both parties to have a global government.

The general consensus seems to be that Donald Trump sees going the state of emergency declaration is his only way out of this situation to save face.
After painting himself into a corner, the shutdown continues to get worse and worse for him. By declaring the state of emergency, Trump can still appear to "win" and reopen the government.
If Trump declares the SOE and wants to build the wall, it will be tied up in the court system for YEARS. So Trump can save face by saying that he tried to force the wall through SOE declaration but the "stupid courts" are holding it up. Meanwhile, since he'll look tough and like he didn't back down by trying to force the state of emergency for the wall, he can reopen the gov't and still say "I tried" for the wall.
Trump doesn't get his wall because it has to be fought in court for years, but he'll be able to claim he tired, the government is reopen, everybody wins.
I don’t think it would take years to go thru legal challenge. Something like this could be ramrodded thru the dockets quickly.
Irregardless of Trump's verbally incontinent ill thought out proud banter about owning the shut down, the bottom line is that the buck stops with Trump. His job is to run the country, not shut down the government because of a vanity project that the vast majority of we the people view as a waste of tax payer dollars. It's desperation at it's finest. Must not upset the shrinking base no matter the cost? Despicable.

If one asks for asylum while in mexico where do they wait for their court case?
If they ask for asylum in a state of our union where do they wait for their court case?
And they are actually walking up to border agents and asking for asylum. If they were going to port of entries like you think they are the wall would not be needed. We have areas of our border that can be crossed by 9 month pregnant women in labor.. just to give birth here.
