Local channels were all broadcasting basketball games while Trump gave his “major address”. Doubt if Trump will be changing any minds.

The far right is never going to let him off the hook. The only solution here is for Mitch to save him by putting the Dem proposals to open the gov and then negotiate up for a vote. It might have to drag on a little longer for the political heat, but there will be enough R's to override any presidential veto. Trump saves face and that is what this whole affair is really about.

good!

Commissar Pelosi has no logical reason to reject the wall funding. She is being a stubborn ass, and will gleefully let America burn just to make sure the POTUS doesnt get to make sure America is safe

So Trump's "major announcement" is some nonsense he "negotiated" with Pence and his son-in-law, that the Democrats have no interest in, and that nonetheless angers his racist base for even suggesting it.

Does Trump know how this negotiating thing works?

Reopening the government is stupid. Everyone knows the Dems will still refuse to fund the wall. Keep it closed indefinitely.

Either that or Trump declares a national emergency to get his wall, and McConnell quickly calls for a vote.

The courts block Trump's national emergency nonsense, but his base is pleased that, "He showed Pelosi who was boss."

People get paid and on to the next crisis.

That is a wonderful battle cry that rouses the base, but it is not realistic and it is not happening. Trump picked a fight he can't win and now he has to find a way out. It is hard for him (and you) but the truth is found in the old idiom: he who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.
