So now dems who demanded the gov. be reopened and no border wall will claim that Trump has caved and is weak

Well - Rs are saying the same thing. So there's that.

The scuttlebutt is that McConnell told Pence that he could no longer put up with the shutdown and that this needed to end. If it had gone on more Senate Republicans would have had to break ranks publicly with Trump's position to end the shutdown and that would have looked even worse for the POTUS.

His position was effectively untenable after the Democratic plan got more votes in the R majority Senate than Trump's plan.

I think these families will be grateful to Pres Trump and will hopefully vote accordingly. Since the liberals have made it clear that they are 100% against any type of border security I say we just completely hand the issue over to them, Conservatives should completely step away from any type of border security since liberals have made it clear they are not willing to work with conservatives on this issue let them own the mess they will undoubtedly create with open borders...2020 here we come

Let's look at the Wall Street Journal, which is a generally seen as conservative journalism nd reporting:

(for the record I can't copy and paste the entire articledue to this sites restrictions on publishing full articles)

Trump, Congress Reach Tentative Deal to Reopen Government for Three Weeks

WASHINGTON—President Trump said Friday he had reached a deal with congressional leaders to reopen the government for three weeks while negotiations over border security funding continue, marking at least a temporary concession by the president to Democrats.

Speaking in the Rose Garden, Mr. Trump said he would sign a bill to open the government until Feb. 15 and start negotiations between the House and Senate over a full-year bill funding the Homeland Security Department, which oversees the border.

“After 36 days of spirited debate and dialogue, I have seen and heard from enough Democrats and Republicans that they are willing to put partisanship aside, I think,” Mr. Trump said.

What part of that says that Trump caved?

NOW...if you read the headlines from the New York Times:

Trump Agrees to Reopen Government for 3 Weeks in Surprise Retreat From Wall

WASHINGTON — President Trump agreed Friday to reopen the federal government for three weeks while negotiations proceeded over how to secure the nation’s southwestern border, backing down after a monthlong standoff failed to force Democrats to give him billions of dollars for his long-promised wall.

Clearly this is being reportedly differently...one labels this as a ongoing negotiation...another reports this as a "retreat" for Trump.

A political win for Trump? How so?

Unfortunately, that is an opinion in the minority. The country gave full credit to Trump and the GOP for this shutdown, just like Ted Cruz got credit for the last one.

Lizard brains. Everything is binary -- Democrat versus Republican, traitor versus patriot, for border security or against.

Some of them are lying intentionally to troll or serve political ends, but some of them just don't have the intellectual capacity for nuance.

Indeed, in almost every survey Americans blamed Trump and the Rs by about 2 to 1 over the Dems.

The dems will sit on their hands for 3 weeks. We all know that. And nothing will get accomplished. You have to be tough to motivate that party

They don’t care about America’s security. Just themselves and they’re still pitching hissy fits they lost the presidency

The Dems are in love with Pelosi. She speaks and acts in a much more presidential and respectful manner than Trump. Did you even listen to her answers?

She is extremely respectful to everyone. Trump is respectful to nobody. This is why people respect her.
