Actually he is supposed to be President of everyone not just his base which only comprises of some 40% or less of Americans. A good President would listen to everyone. He is not even close to being a democratic leader. He was ready to sign a bill to keep the government open until Coulter and Rush slammed him for not getting funding for the wall. How is that being a democratic leader. The man doesn't have a clue how to negotiate.
And yes since Trump gets his marching orders from Coulter, Rush, and Hannity, so do his base.
Here's the thing. If Trump caves in on the wall that's NOT going to guarantee that many liberals will vote for him the next time but he WILL lose some support among his base, so he's going by the safe calculation. And Trump did win the election so despite what the polls say most people agree with him. The actual election is the only REAL poll.
Local level too, here in my state there are liberals who say that our Republican legislature and Senators and Congressmen need to represent them too but they also need to represent the Republican base which is dominant here. And liberals are a small minority down here. So if 80% of us are pro-life how can a Republican politician justify supporting Planned Parenthood for the 20%?
He is governing for 25% of the country and attacking the rest of us. Hannity and Ingraham are not all that bright and should not be the senior advisors of the WH because our president is too ignorant and indecisive to make his own decisions or govern the entire US.
What we have had for the last two years is minority or 'mob' rule.
Building the wall is doing 100% what he should do as a democratic leader.
He ran on it in 2016, in fact it was his signature campaign promise. He won the 2016 election. When he doesn't focus on it, his base begins to complain.
He's doing what his base wants, which is the base that won him the 2016 election. Ignoring them would be undemocratic and single to people that elections don't have consequences.

I don't care what he promised a small minority of the country. He wants us to pay for it. It is not democratic to govern for a minority and punish the majority. Why don't you guys just volunteer to pay extra taxes if you want the wall? We are not paying for a medieval solution to a modern problem.
He's having a tantrum and that's about it. Trump does not care about a wall. Even his associates have admitted that.

It's precisely democratic, he won the election. His base deserves the wall. They didn't vote for Trump in 2016, they voted for someone to give them the wall in 2016. And they were the winners.
As much as you want to spin this as a "small minority", they won 2016 and they deserve to have their wishes enacted.
Would you like to play this 5:53 video? I think the second part of it speaks to the "media." Forget what Tucker Carlson says, if you don't like him. Just listen to the Democrat politicians and the media clips.
I think he should make decisions based on what’s best for the entire country. As it is right now, he’s making decisions based on what Coulter, Hannity, etc want. He’s even actively hurting people he thinks didn’t vote for him (government employees). [No cost-of-living raise; holding us hostage.]
That’s not OK.
You'll have to ask agents 1 through 5 and attorney 2 about "holding us hostage."
Trump is being pressured to listen to his base. This actually a good thing. You want the president to listen to the base that got him elected. This is what president's are supposed to do in a democracy. Not forgot the people who got them elected.
Trump gets accused of being a dictator, fascist etc but at least here, he's being a very democratic leader.
How is that governing all ? Should all dems then jump ship- go in a corner and shut up? We have 3 parts to balance - the WH does not get it ! This is not USA Corp! I think if you let him - he’d fire the entire FBI - and anyone don’t agree. Ask the generals who dipped out !
