How is that governing all ? Should all dems then jump ship- go in a corner and shut up? We have 3 parts to balance - the WH does not get it ! This is not USA Corp! I think if you let him - he’d fire the entire FBI - and anyone don’t agree. Ask the generals who dipped out !
Trump is doing everything allowed to him under the constitution to give his base the wall, at least currently. He probably should have pushed for the wall earlier, but better late than never as they say.
This is precisely what he should be. As an elected official, he should push for the things he campaigned on to the best of his ability. That's how a representative democracy works. You act like it's a bad thing. Why?
It's precisely democratic, he won the election. His base deserves the wall. They didn't vote for Trump in 2016, they voted for someone to give them the wall in 2016. And they were the winners.
As much as you want to spin this as a "small minority", they won 2016 and they deserve to have their wishes enacted.
This is how democracy works.
And the House, which represents us doesn't want it. That's democracy. Congress is more representative of the people than Trump. And sorry--but he is not an autocrat. He works for the country.
When enough republican senators come to their senses (or see the polls), they'll override Trump. McConnell's polls are in the mid-30s. Unless he is retiring--he cannot afford to go against the will of the people.

When it comes to the Wall, the closest referendum the American people had was the 2016 election. The 2018 midterms was a bunch of local elections where the Wall was not really on the forefront of most (if not all) of those elections.
But by all means the House congressmen and women can do what they feel is in the best interest of their constituents.
So you now have a government shutdown. Who should fold? Should there be a compromise? In the meantime, it's your country that is suffering because both sides are not compromising properly.
But, I'm on Trump's side on this one. 2016 meant the wall should be his priority. It's pretty clear it was that issue that won him that election against all other missteps. So he'd be amiss to turn his back on his base and not push for it. But he should have done it earlier.
If I may, I will give my 2 cents on the question posed in this thread with another post, minimally tweaked, that I just wrote in another thread; apologies for the redundancy.
Donald Trump does not lead a country; he leads a movement.
Each group involved, in this movement, Trump, his minions and his media propagandists feed off each other.
Trump is president of the Republican base. He takes his most passionate supporters to the land of euphoria and they have the same effect on him.
Thankfully, IMHO, this will eventually free us from him as he ( and his followers) fail to note the reality of his election numbers and the analysis of the same:
Trump, it should never be forgotten, is a president who was put in office with just 46% of the popular vote. He won not on breadth of his support, but on its depth in aggrieved pockets of the electorate. He believes that almost anything he would do to expand his appeal would dilute his relationship with his base. He is not going to take any chances with it. Faulty, short term thinking for a guy who requires applause, as it is surely going to diminish; but it is why he proudly claimed ownership of what has now become the longest government shutdown ever, and is deservedly getting more of the blame for the pain that it is causing.
This is a bad bet for a president who started out historically unpopular, and has pretty much been stuck there since, reports the Brookings Institute. "He would do well to remember that millions who voted for him did it with deep reservations. In bowing to the demands of his strongest supporters aka minions — who channel their rage through Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter — Trump is squandering what’s left of the benefit of the doubt from those who were less enthusiastic to vote for him".
Those voters bolted in the 2018 midterms. IMHO, "thank goodness".
In the meantime we as a country are going to be held hostage, much like the 800,000 federal government workers, and ruled by the wannabe dictator and his minions. All the while he cheapens the presidency and demolishes our standing and reputation in the world, and promotes the annihilation of our democracy, with his stunts and lies, that to him are only a means to applause, as he has no belief in the movement he foments.
Trump was elected to lead the entire nation, not just the minority that voted for him.
I'm sorry, there is too much cognitive dissonance in this sentence to respond intelligently
