After what the Dems pulled on Kavanaugh with their unsubstantiated allegations, those days are gone. Too bad; so sad. Dems have to lie in the bed they've made.

I don't understand why the university would even allow that picture to be printed in their yearbook. Someone had to approve it. Shameful.

I am more concerned about the masses of people who just eat that stuff up.

No one would go through the effort of digging stuff up if there was not such a huge group that desires it.

We now live in a world where an advertiser, yes small but in any case these things always start small, withdrew from advertising on a dude's race car because of something his dad said 30 years ago.

You'd think that somebody would have caught that and put the kibosh on it. Or at least told Northam "this is not a smart idea". He may or may not be a racist but he is definitely a moron. Or was as recently as 1985 when he was a 25 year old adult.

Because that's when blackface is done these days, when there are no black people around to spoil the fun.
I'm sure black people sometimes make fun of white people when they are together. There are online groups that do just that, but that is acceptable today.

The Eddie Murphy skit was hilarious, because it made a point that is relevant today, regarding white privilege plus it's Eddie Murphy. It was a funny caricature, as if white people on the bus live in a different world and blacks are left out of a big champagne party - on the city bus- and banks throw free money to any white people who come in the door. Yup, happens every day....

Here's how Northam could have handled this:

1. HE should have brought it out in the open; say how much he's changed and why it's wrong. He absolutely had to know it was out there.

2. He should have stopped on Friday with the apology instead of giving that bizarre press conference on Saturday where he totally did a 180 and said 'hey, that's not me in that picture".

That said, he may do what Steve King and Trump has done and just ignore it and power through it. Time will tell.

NICE job of conveniently ignoring the allegation made by Kavanaugh's college roommate that Kavanaugh lied under oath to Congress, an allegation Republicans refused to investigate.

And that didn't turn out to be true, same as Blasey Ford's ridiculous unsubstantiated allegations.

I'm one who cuts against the witch hunt screeching, for the reasons expressed here (link). I have posted before against holding people's ancient activities against them, here, Don't Hold Juvenile Activity Against People - Minorities and Professionals. While I don't like Northam for other reasons it is a huge disincentive for people to enter public life that long-ago activities can, out of nowhere, ruin them. If Abraham Lincoln were brought back to life, I'm sure one could find statements against full racial integration. Hugo Black, once a Klansman, was a staunch advocate of minority rights on the Supreme Court bench. Harry Truman, in his younger days an anti-black bigot, integrated army housing.

The examples are legion. People should have the ability to change their beliefs and their ways.
