Until ObamaCare used institutional coercion, whether you involved yourself in a health insurance risk mitigation pool was 100% entirely up to you. Rumor has it that it is back to being voluntary, although I still have to answer the question when filing my annual 1040 (where the government and I formally calculate/discuss if their annual armed robbery of about a quarter of my earnings went according to their rules for how mugging me is supposed to go).
But ObamaCare's tyranny aside, all insurance plans are voluntary. You can go your entire life and never be part of an insurance if you so choose.
Yes--which is why the uninsured did not care. They could just check themselves into the Emergency Room and let everyone else pay. So others do, in fact, end up paying sooner or later for those ER parasites who are too 'ruggedly individualistic' to bother with health insurance.

Is it morally acceptable to you to force other people to pay for your bills like your living expenses, healthcare, education and child rearing?
I don't mind paying for police, military etc in order to insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.
I'm with the founders on that one.
You disagree, because you see it as "paying for others" without realizing you are included in the "others". The police will protect you too. Think of it that way, and you'll be a lot less bitter about having to pay for "others".
The founders said "ourselves and our Posterity", not "other people and their posterity".
There may have been nations with no military, or any kind of public services, but they would have fallen apart, or got taken over a long time ago.
You want the borders protected, but you dont want to pay for it. That can mean only one thing: You want others to pay for your bills. Hypocrite!
