This is hardly unique to corporations, you are cherry-picking.

Corporations, governments, religions, armies, and on and on and on are all capable of doing great evil in the interests of their members.

What these groups have in common is that they are groups of human beings. So, why are human beings able to be so evil?

The sole purpose of a corporation is to make money.

They don't exist to provide jobs.....
The jobs that are created are a necessary means of production, nothing more.

They do not exist as engines of social justice.

If you think that's evil, than start your own business, grow it into a corporation.......

And see how long you can exist by being a paragon of morality or paying your employees more than the market allows..

Very easy for people to knowingly sell bad securities that end up tanking the US economy when they are banking a million a year etc. There is a barrier between the actions of individuals at corporations and the impact of their decisions.

Corporations reward this type of behavior because their ultimate goal is profit. Anyone who has worked in a corporate environment will tell you the type of people that move up the ladder quickly are not only those that are talented and hard working but also those who are willing to do things most others aren't.
Also almost none of them ever stay in managerial roles below their final positions more than like 1-2 years. It’s amazing how in any major corporation low and mid level tier departments have such unstable management for this reason. The few people fit to advance just keep moving up leaving all those departments with revolving door management and all sorts of problems

Alright, I'll buy the USA is a corporation.

The government is limited by the US Constitution, if government is a corporation, why shouldn't private for-profit corporations be limited?

Should corporations have the same rights as people? People have natural life-spans, corporations have the potential for immortality; this aspect (as well as others) is problematic.

Money is not free speech, get this: it's money.

I'm not necessarily saying they're (corporate management and owners) evil, but they love money and put it above everything else. Greed gives rise to selfish and wicked actions. The love of money is the root of all evil.
OP throws out the "evil" word which of course is not the right question - it's just the question he wants us to answer.

A better question is why corporations do not serve the interest of the average wage-earner, and the average consumer. It's not a question of whether they are evil, but whether they serve your corporation's interests - that is, your family.

The answer as you have stated is that there is really only one thing that matters to a corporation, and that is to maximize profit today and into the future. Of course the trickle down fantasy assures us that this will surely help YOU out in the end; after all, if the corporation is making more profit, they are undoubtedly going to share more of it with you right?

It is absolutely amazing that so many people really believe the "rising tide of corporate profit will raise all boats" nonsense, when all you have to do is take a hard look at the wealth disparity that grows bigger every day; and when you watch wages stagnate and the costs of goods and services increase.

"Evil" and "greed" are often synonymous.

Private corporations are run by very rich people, who have every intention of doing ANYTHING they have to do to get even richer. And the rank and file, "boots on the ground" mid-level managers are rated on how well they can cut spending and do "less with more" to drive up profit every quarter. Corporations will screw over whoever they have to to make a buck.

Capitalism, ain't it great?

Since everyone that gives this a moment's thought understands these basic facts - why would the average wage earner/consumer ever believe that Citizens United somehow benefits them?

They are not. Only idiots think that.

The wealth of evidence indicates for more persuasively the capacity for governments to commit evil. Consider the millions who've died just in the last century at the hands of governments in Germany, China, Spain, Cambodia, Vietnam, Libya, Cuba, North Korea, Russia, Serbia, etc etc etc. Far, far more evil has been committed by any one of those governments than the whole of all private industry combined.

So why the consistent tendency to trust government but demonize private industry? You got me.
