Donald Trump reacted to the statement by tweeting: 'Based on Justin’s false statements at his news conference ... I have instructed our U.S. Reps not to endorse the [agreed summit] Communique'

The reason Trump gave for slapping tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum was that he considered Canada to be a national security threat. Do you not consider that an insult? Canadians sure did and Trudeau is a Canadian. So that was true.

Trudeau confirmed that Canada would be retaliating against the U.S. tariffs with tariffs of its own at the end of the month. Truth again. It had already been publicly announced weeks before.

So what what did Trudeau say that was wrong? He said what exactly Canada was going to do and tariffs were indeed imposed.

I remember I was scratching my head at the time trying to figure out why Trump was so enraged. Then I read an opinion piece which provided the likely answer: Trump was on a plane on his way to meet the North Korean leader and probably thought the Trudeau’s comments about retaliatory tariffs made Trump look weak.

Trudeau said he acknowledges that he “came from a place of privilege, but I now need to acknowledge that comes with a massive blind spot."

So how can he in one breath blame his privilege and thus society, and in another take responsibility?
