Would you give LGBT people and other people who didn't want to conform to fundamentalist Christian values a chance to escape to Canada or would everyone be sent straight to the guillotine? What would be the punishment for a woman having sex out of wedlock? I'm sure the laws wouldn't be enforced equally for both men and women in your ideal society.
It really feels like we are getting close to something like the 1979 Iranian Revolution in this country. The U.S. (or parts of what is now the U.S.) may become the first fundamentalist Christian totalitarian state in modern times.
No, I believe America is very far off (if even at all) from something akin to a fundamentalist Christian version of the Iranian revolution where Gays/LGBT and minorities are tortured and killed off. Despite what everyone in urban areas, academia and other elitist areas keep saying over again ad nauseum, it's the hard left that is the current more dangerous threat in the modern West and not the right.
I miss a lot of the simpler, easier life where people were not sleeping in cars and on the streets.
I just heard from disgusting news on NPR about some of Trump's cohorts who buy homes all over the U.S. and are spending cash for so much of these properties and regular people can't buy a home today.
Socially (obviously not economically), I'd be perfectly okay with 2009. The past 10 years has just gone in the wrong direction for very little justified reason. Then again, this decade didn't manifest itself in a vacuum, and you have to ask which romanticized time period led us to present conditions.
I hear you.. at one time there was much more respect...Democrats have no respect for the Presidency. None. They are trashing their own reputation . Their self respect is gone with no standards at all. They are very radical and want very radical changes. They want to change us to what they want us to think, what we should drive, eat, and believe and use the news media to brainwash with propaganda , innuendo, hearsay, speculation and say anything at all to brainwash the masses. One has to be very careful or we will be a communist country before most even know it. Radical means drastic change. Obama's transformation was stopped by Trump. They want to program everyone thinking the same. Those who love America and the Constitution, their freedom and their rights will not be lead down that path. The hate news could make you hate your family, your God, your own self as they fill your head with hate toward anyone or anything.. this is not freedom. It is programming. The communists are all programmed to be one mind and told not the truth, but whatever the forces want them to believe. The Orwellian way is described in the book 1984. This is the playbook for the radicals to change us into robots. One is not educated until they read it.

Such good times back then. Barely graduated HS, had no direction, had interests but partying and race cars were more important. Started an Auto Body Design program at the local community college, just to make my parents happy. A year into that I was able to get my foot at one of the many design shops as a blue print runner. I took a pay cut from the $12 an hour I was getting at a robotics factory to $10 an hour. Within 3 years I was at $15 with all the overtime I could work. Quit school since I was learning more at work than in class. As the late 90's came, all the die design work washed up...the start of offshoring. I made a jump into product design (which I'm still doing) and that pay went from $15 to $20 an hour , along with all the over time I could work. I eventually worked up to mid $40's an hour bouncing around from job shop to job shop (hence the nickname "jobbie" ) then '07 hit and it all went sideways. Still recovering from then...and about $30k short a year from the "good times"
All through those times from HS to '07 was filled with race cars, snowmobiles, boats, plenty of failed relationships and a lot of partying. Health care was no worry since it was always employer provided with a minimal amount from me. 401k matches were a norm. Met some incredible people, and basically loved what I did for a living. There was no PC, it was close to a blue collar type of job. We would have cocktails at lunch time, smoke at our drafting boards / PC's, porn pics and magazines everywhere, most shops a guy was an FFL on the side, so there was always people bringing their newest firearm in for show and tell.
Now the industry is more white collar, we live in cubicle hell , it's all corporate PC BS and one needs an engineering degree to start in the business. Jobs are not as plentiful because we have to compete with India, China and Mexico. The place i work at now just shipped a bunch of design work to both India and Mexico.
So, "rose colored" glasses or not, things were much easier back then. At least for me.

Wiki has it wrong, it wasn't line workers, it was strictly designers. The term came because at that time we would jump from shop to shop following the work or money. You could quit a job at lunch time and with a couple of phone calls have a new one within hours.

Not sure I've seen anyone state they want to go back to the "50's" although plenty of people keep bringing that up.
I take you're white, male, heterosexual, middle-class, pretty vanilla, etc.? Otherwise things in "the good old days" wouldn't be so nice for you.
But always nice enough for non-whites to want to flock to the U.S. no matter how racist people proclaim it was or still is.
