I swear it's ridiculous, every time this woman gets introduced she insists on being introduced as DOCTOR Jill Biden.

I know over 500 physicians, and NONE of them ever insists on being called doctor the way she does.

Yes, I know she has a doctorate in education. Yes I know that PhD and EdD graduates are technically able to call themselves "doctor"

But I swear there's some kind of low self esteem going on with this woman because I've never heard of anybody who is so ridiculous about this doctor title.

True. Joe has his own issues.

No one cares. Ive met lots of folks who once they could be called Dr, insisted on it. Its not that uncommon.

we have several phd academics (english, gender studies, biology, physics, and others) in the family. they are all very pretentious about their phd and use 'dr.' on their personal correspondence and in their personal life. the medical doctors and surgeons i know personally, and i know many, never use dr. in their personal life.

I know a couple folks like that. Doctorate in theology, nothing whatever to do with their 'job'... but insist on using the title all the time.

Probably more important things to worry about, though.

My father received an honorary doctorate late in life; I believe he was 76. He was so extremely proud of this honorary degree that he insisted on being called "Dr. So-and-So" for the rest of his life. It was silly. We all knew it was silly, but we humored him.

These things just mean a lot to some people. About all you can do is chuckle privately; it would be rude and hurtful to call them out for such a harmless thing.

MD's are the only people that should have "Dr." in their address in my opinion.

Father in law was an ob/gyn. He only used Dr. in his professional life. When he retired, he stopped using the Dr. altogether.

My neighbor is a chiropractor. Dude insists on using Dr. every chance he gets. Even to people he just happens to run into like taking evening walks in our neighborhood. He doesn't realize everyone is laughing at him.

I know many people that insist on being addressed as Doctor. They think it spells GOD.

Why are Sharpton and Jackson referred to as Reverend? For some, as evidenced by several posts above, it's meaningless ego stroking. For others, like Al and Jesse, it's part of a charlatan's ruse.
