I was never rah rah go school, so I didn't pay much attention to it.
My school mascot was literally emblazoned on the school seal. It was one of the first things you saw when coming into the main building. And I also ran track in high school. There was no "not paying attention".
Bravo to that school for refusing to bow to the cultural marxists and their cancel culture. Don't like it? Then either move to a different school district or home school!

What's your point? My high school never had the Confederate flag as part of its school seal. My school mascot had nothing to do with the Confederacy, which is a good thing.
My point was this. You said you didn't pay attention. I don't understand how that would be. Whether you were ra ra or not, your school seal was somewhere and you'd see it at some time in your high school years. Even if you barely knew what the mascot was, you had to have heard about it. You mentioned your diploma had a Confederate flag on it. That tells me your high school mascot was likely the Rebel. Mine was not. Mine did not have a Confederate flag on it. My high school mascot had nothing to do with the Confederacy. Neither did the school seal. And I went to school in Georgia.
I never said they would. I'm saying that my hatred for the Confederate flag goes to those depths. I'm thankful that the high school I went to (in Georgia no less) didn't have the Rebel as its mascot. No connection with Confederates. Kids came to school wearing Confederate flag t-shirts, and I hated that. However, the school mascot, the school seal, no Confederate flag, no Dixie, nothing to do with the Confederacy.
I remember in high school seeing a kid with a Confederate flag shirt. It said "it's a southern thing, y'all wouldn't understand". I've always hated the Confederate flag. And no, I didn't learn such disgust for it from BLM or "leftists marxists". My father and mother taught me about what it was about, when I was 13, 14 years old.
Looking back on that particular t-shirt, there were alot of things that I never thought about back then, but I think about now. If it's a southern thing, why do the majority of Black Americans view the Confederate flag with disdain? According to the U.S. Census, a majority of Black Americans are southerners. Historically, the vast majority of Black Americans lived in the South. Even with Blacks having moved to other parts of the USA, most Black Americans have southern roots. A majority of Black Americans are southerners. Most Black Americans view the Confederate flag as a symbol of racism. And this isn't anything recent either. This disdain for the Confederate flag among Black Americans was present in the 1960s, the 1990s, and now. Many people just didn't care.
