From Washington Post reporting:

Here are the votes in the first round: Emmer, 78; Johnson, 34; Donalds, 29; Hern, 27; Scott, 18; Bergman 16; Sessions, 8.

That’s according to Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.).

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-Wash.) said five members voted for other people and one voted present.

Word on the Hill is that if Emmer is the nominee some Democrats might vote present to get him over the line. We'll see if that's true.

I was kind of horrified when someone at an event for this organization described it to me. There was also a big thing going on between his wife and our school board chair. They got into a legal tussle over a charter school that they opened. The chair claimed Donald's wife's faction tried to take the school over and boot her out. It's a complicated situation and I have only lived in this area for a couple of years. EVERYONE has chosen a side and it's hard to know what really went on. I have heard the school board chair's side of it directly from her mouth but not Donald's wife. And I have also learned our local press is so biased that you can't depend on their telling of events.
So I guess it's a good thing that Mrs. Donald is not running for Speaker of the House.

I'd be happy to see Donald chosen as Speaker but have to be skeptical if he could get enough votes for it to happen.

That's because Emmer is partly in their camp!

Well, he's not a member of the FreeDUM Caucus, so that's a step in the right direction. And he voted to certify the election, so he's not completely stupid/crazy. That may be the best we can hope for at this point.

If the Democrats are smart they’ll do it. They are not going to get a Democrat in that seat and at least this way the business of the government can continue.

I’m still rooting for a Liz Cheney nomination, if this doesn’t work out, just to see the mean Truth Social “tweets” from an unnamed presidential candidate.

I did see that as well provided Emmer agreed to allow votes on certain legislation, such as Ukraine/Israel aid as well as votes on keeping funding levels at levels negotiated during the debt deal.
