LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, denied a report Friday that it had pressured employees to vote against Democrats in November because of worries that a bill the party supports would make it easier for workers to unionize.

How is it different from unions telling people how to vote?

I could be wrong on this, and feel free to tell me so, but I would assume that unions can't hold a candle to the power of Wal-Mart. I would Imagine that Wal-mart has a bit more sway than any union.

Either way, neither side should tell their people how to vote, If this is what unions do and wal mart wants to be better, they can't succumb to the same actions, if they do, they are at the same level.

I am a Union worker. A unionized walmart would put excellent benefits in the hands of the employees, higher wages, a voice for any employee unfairly treated by management. The thing Walmart would fear the most----cutting into profits to give their employees a "livable" wage

Excellent benefits
higher wages
contractual agreements/wage increase
3rd party interaction-so management will not get away with unfair/intimidating actions
Grievance/Arbitration
Unions keep management honest
More vacation, Paid Holidays

$40.00 a month in union dues for all this, and the company forced to pay a health/welfare amount per hour of work done by employee, it's around $5.00 an hour/40 hour week

Oh my god! The greedy one's at the top may actually not even miss the thousands of dollars to give their workers some dignity!

UNIONIZE WAL-MART!!!
Don't listen to management! They want to keep their control over you their way, no good. If you work at wal-mart spread the word, they fear it so much (mngmnt) that they are trying to convince you unionization is bad thing, I'm here to tell you, You'll be happy going to work being union!

The company has the right to voice their opinion- stupid as it may be- about which candidate they would prefer. They don't have the right to pressure, intimidate or threaten people with differing views.

The union has the right to endorse and make it preference for a candidate known to its members. They don't have a right to pressure or intimidate members on how they should vote. As a member of a union for years and years, all they have ever done is send me "issue scorecards" and endorsements. They have never called me or pulled me aside at work and said "hey bud, you need to vote for _____".

Ah - no - Unionizing WalMart would be a lousy thing -

Most workers (not all) at WalMart are part time - Seniors supplementing their income (who do not need "benefits") - Students who are furthering their education - people who are doing a second job -

There are no "benefits" to being in a Union - quite the opposite -

No Unions

Whether Wal*Mart- or any business- gets unionized or not is up to Wal*Mart. If they treat their employees like crap and the employees feel the need to unionize, that is the fault of management. Companies that are unionized usually dexserve to be.

You don't know what you are talking about. Unions keep workers from being the working poor, redistributing the wealth. More of it to the worker, without the worker there would be no business.
Don't be selfish and greedy behind your actions of not liking unions. Workers deserve fair treatment and higher wages/vacation/holidays PERIOD

There can be clauses in a contract to cover "temporary workers" or part time. So that blows your whole speech away.

I can only relate to the WalMarts I know - and the WalMart Employees I talk to - and none of them feel they are being "treated like crap" - quite the opposite.
