the suggestion was posed for someone who obviously has internet access. if you can't afford a computer or internet access, you can't afford a phone and you aren't entitled to one.

Does that work for people who cannot afford a $500 computer and $300 a year for internet access? Which would be a majority of the people who live in my neighborhood.

Why do so many people choose to be RICH? And why do most of them FAIL? But they don't realize that they have failed until theiy have committed themselves to a lifestyle of the rich?

Good points. Everyone who thinks that they are going to be rich starts consuming like they are. The result is more debt and a deeper recession for our economy. Those who are on welfare and do so, as the OP mentioned, are also part of the problem. But these folks don't choose to be poor as much as they choose to be ignorant and mislead by a borderline-fascist financial system.

If anything, those who "choose" to be poor (i.e. work a lower-wage job for a small company they enjoy working for, and consume less) are better off. They are not spreading the consumerism cancer, are able to spend time with their loved ones, and may actually be able to retire some day because they put money into their IRA instead of a BMW and a plasma TV.

many can attest to the minimalist that I am. I don't really have anything too material, but I feel rich because I am independent. I do think that poverty is a choice, I just think that some have differing opinions on what poverty is.

It's crazy how work wants a contact number...and never calls you on it!

I agree, I have Virgin Mobile and it's actually less expensive than maintaing AT&T long distance service on my home phone with the added benefit of giving me a phone when on the road. Ever try to find a pay phone these days?

Possibly the most ignorant post ever on CD.

That's funny - you're joking, right?
