sailordave - sounds like old home week. The description of a ‘birthing compartment” is priceless. On one cruise I, as resident Machine Repairman, claimed the steel work bench for sleeping because it was warmer than the rack and the electricians had already claimed the main motors and the fire rooms were already too crowded.
We had a couple of gay guys on board but so what? Sex was for shore leave.
Ever been to an enlisted club? Ever been out with the boys, or girls? They all talk sex. Most of it lies, but the talk is there.
Why do straighter daters have the need to profess their heterosexuality and shove it in my face? That's a real scenario.
I was in the Air Force and I can honestly say I've never been around more filthy-mouthed, drunken, sex-havin' people in my life. Certainly not all were that way, but an awful lot. There also seemed to be many husbands who cheated while away TDY. It made me laugh when the military claimed gay people should be banned because the military had "high moral standards".
There is no group of people more sexually obsessed than a group of sailors on shore leave after a long cruise. We used to be out for 2 1/2 months at a time. It was scary the first night back.

LOL
My deployments were all between 95 and 105 days underwater. After leaving the boat the first time that any females came into sight, there was often a singular common thought among those men.
Alas I only completed 17 of those patrols, so was only able to observe this behavior a few times
I asked a Navy friend what it was like to be out on a carrier for a long time during Vietnam. ( I was drafted in the Navy, but served at Naval air stations and never was on an aircraft carrier)
He stated not only do ugly women start looking appealing, but baby faced Ensigns also started looking attractive.
(He loved to make statements to see if he could get young sailors shocked )

I'm not sure about Trident patrols but 95/105 was the crew cycle on the Polaris Poseiden boats not the submergence time.

My chief used to say that there were no ugly women after 11 PM.

Anyone who thinks that he can recall having seen an ugly woman; is a sailor who has not spent enough years underwater yet.
All females radiate some form of beauty.
