What are you afraid Van Jones is going to do, inside the system?

Care to show what is communist about Green for All, or the CEQ?

I realize you all are very uncomfortable with the idea of someone concerned about racial equality inside the system.

I think you will find very few people uncomfortable with racial equality if what you're talking about is equal opportunity and equal treatment.

How do you explain all the panic, then?

I realize this is from a liberal source, but the individual has worked with Jones for years. We should all recognize that these political entertainers - from Beck and Hannity to Olbermann need to twist facts for ratings:

Eva Paterson: Glenn Beck's Attack On Van Jones: Fantasies and Falsehoods

How about him being a "Truther"? That is OK with you? How about him saying he is a communist? Is that OK? How about him saying whites are putting the garbage into minorities neighborhoods? Is that OK?

People like you is why this country is in the mess that it is.

Van Jones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"On May 8, 1992, the week AFTER the Rodney King disturbances, I sent a staff attorney and Van out to be legal monitors at a peaceful march in San Francisco. The local police, perhaps understandably nervous, stopped the march and arrested hundreds of people -- including all the legal monitors.

The matter was quickly sorted out; Van and my staff attorney were released within a few hours. All charges against them were dropped. Van was part of a successful class action lawsuit later; the City of San Francisco ultimately compensated him financially for his unjust arrest (a rare outcome).

So the unwarranted arrest at a peaceful march -- for which the charges were dropped and for which Van was financially compensated -- is the sole basis for the smear that he is some kind of dangerous criminal.

Van has spoken often about that difficult period 17 years ago -- and its impact on him, as a young law student. But to imply that he was somehow a rioter who went to prison is absurd. Beck also bizarrely claims that Van was arrested in the Seattle WTO protests. That is just a flat-out falsehood.

You don't have to take my word for it. Arrests and convictions are all a matter of public record. Beck is at best relying on Internet rumors or even inventing claims to boost his ratings."

Glenn Beck's Crazy Lies About Van Jones | Environment | AlterNet

You are correct in saying he was not arrested during the Rodney King riots. He was arrested in San Fransico at a seperate rally and was a full week after the fact. Yep, a complete fabrication right out of thin air.

Well, since we all realize now that you can't believe anything you hear on Fox News I suppose we should see what objective and reliable sources are available.

Oh look, I found one!

This article is from 2005.

Eva Paterson, who was then the committee's executive director, remembers getting a cover letter that stood out from the rest: "It was this piece of stationery that had little faces across the top, a stencil of little guys with dreads. We said, 'Oh, yeah, we're hiring him.'"

Paterson got to know Jones over the coming months, and enjoyed having the young radical in her office. "He was a kid then, really," she said. "He was brilliant, pretty feisty, pretty in your face, but that's how you are when you're young. Just a force of nature."

When the verdicts came down -- not guilty for three of the officers involved, and deadlocked on the fourth -- Paterson's office, like the city, reacted with disbelief. Paterson said she felt like picking up her office chair and hurling it out the window. The staff hit the streets to monitor the demonstrations that erupted in San Francisco. One week later, while Jones was observing the first large rally since the lifting of the city's state of emergency, he got swept up in mass arrests. It was a turning point in his life.

Jones had planned to move to Washington, DC, and had already landed a job and an apartment there. But in jail, he said, "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.'" Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. "I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist."

In 1994, the young activists formed a socialist collective, Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, which held study groups on the theories of Marx and Lenin and dreamed of a multiracial socialist utopia.

He is claiming the US commited genocide on thousands of people and people are STILL defending him. That is amazing. My bet is, it's Labor day weekend so it will all be forgotten by Monday and he will not be fired.

The statement he signed about 9/11 isnt a "Truther" declaration, it's a list of questions, submitted through the right channels.

He was a communist according to his own words; it isnt apparent in the work he's doing these days.

Corporations run by white people were indeed putting garbage into "minorities' neighborhoods": see E. St. Louis and Anniston, AL.
