So no wonder why so many students are clueless about history. They only learn selected facts from a biased point of view versus objective historical facts.
How would you teach 2000+ years of history in approximately 540 hours (180 school days x 1 hr/day x 3 years of high school (FL does not require a history class in the 10th grade)?
I'm going to assume you are heterosexual, so it does not surprise me that you would say such a thing.
I am indeed a hetero, and I am very active in supporting Equality of Marriage for the GLBT community. So leave the personal attacks out of it.
In my most firmest opinions, there is no more reason to point out a historical figure's race or sexual orientation than to harp about their shoe size.
Was scientist A important because of his sexual orientation, or for his works bettering mankind. Was politician B more important for furthering race/GLBT rights or because of his race.
To demand more than is rational is to invite ridicule, resentment, and opposition to what rights are actually due.

It does have an affect on how we experience life, so to omit someone's sexual orientation is to omit or censor a part of who they are.
If a lesson is being taught about Ronald Reagan, I doubt many people would have a problem with his wife, Nancy Reagan, being mentioned. This fact is a pretty good indication that he was heterosexual. If this historical figure being discussed was gay, then hopefully you wouldn't have a problem with a same-sex partner being mentioned either.
Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender. I'm not real crazy about the term, but it's an easy way of including a group of people who are often categorized together.
They can already learn anything they need to know online, and in any Border's bookstore. I can see covering the basics : tolerance, light definition, but they don't need their minds bombarded by this any more than "straight" history for hetero people. I never liked being made uncomfortable in home ec class about "becoming a woman." Who the hell wanted to see a set of fallopian tubes on a filmstrip screen ? They made us watch that crap.

Thank you so very much. We have so many letters for names now.
Aren't our kids confused enough without this added to the mix? Heck I did not know the term GLBT and I have grown grandchildren. Sounds like a deli sandwich to me.

No problem. It gets worse, though. The latest I've read is GLBTQI, which stands for Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Q*eer or Questioning - as in "questioning" your sexual orientation - and Intersexed.
It's a bit much, I think.
