A Reckless Health Care Bill That Nobody Believes In - WSJ.com

Quote:
Mr. Obama promised a new era of transparent good government, yet on Saturday morning Mr. Reid threw out the 2,100-page bill that the world's greatest deliberative body spent just 17 days debating and replaced it with a new "manager's amendment" that was stapled together in covert partisan negotiations. Democrats are barely even bothering to pretend to care what's in it, not that any Senator had the chance to digest it in the 38 hours before the first cloture vote at 1 a.m. this morning. After procedural motions that allow for no amendments, the final vote could come at 9 p.m. on December 24.
Read on for the devastating impact this bill will have on individuals and small business, not to mention the drastic regulation, mandates and taxes implemented in a time of economic hardship.

Honestly, I do not know if I am for or not for this health care bill. I see where it may be needed but I don't know about the government providing it.

But I do feel we need reform for sure. I hate the whole "pre existing condition" thing.

Well how do we deal with pre existing conditions? If everybody waits until they are sick to get insurance it will be expensive indeed.

I would love to get car insurance after I have been in an accident.

As one of the students on this forum maybe I could get you to look at what this bill is really meant to do. I believe that it is to start the building of an infrastructure that is aimed at getting us to socialized medicine.

It is very imperative that we need to have this one pitched into File 13 and then get to work on some kind of bi-partisan bill that all can benefit from. This will not be of real benefit to most of us but it will surely begin that track to socialized medicine. Look at it as it is not as Reid says it is.

You are comparing car accidents to human life?

Please do not tell me you are "prolife" but then arguing about prices and people getting insurance when they are sick.

What should happen to these people? What is your point you are trying to get across?

Yes. I agree up to a point. Especially bi partisan but it does not seem like the right is willing to move over to do anything.

I don't think people should be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Granted, insuring them will raise the cost for everyone.

That is the one aspect I agree with in the bills.

Quote:
WellPoint found that a healthy 25-year-old in Milwaukee buying coverage on the individual market will see his costs rise by 178%. A small business based in Richmond with eight employees in average health will see a 23% increase. Insurance costs for a 40-year-old family with two kids living in Indianapolis will pay 106% more. And on and on.

Finally. Something we agree on. But what can be done about these people?

I understand it is not fair to raise the price for everyone else but at the same time, we live in the greatest country. No one should be denied.

My point is if everyone only got insurance when they got sick insurance would be very expensive.

Yes I am comparing health insurance to car insurance, they are both insurances. Everyone intuitvely knows why you need car insurance before you get into an accident but common sense flys out the window when it comes to health insurance.

What would you think of your family buying life insurance for you after you are dead? It makes no sense, neither does buying health insurance after you have become sick.

I have no idea how to deal with theses people but it is not as clear cut as you seem to think.

I have to agree this is not a great bill~ the only thing worse would be not getting it!

After it is passed they should work on fixing it~ but to NOT pass it would just about sink this country and open it to being taken over by anyone that wishes to take it over!

Then perhaps we should agree with the Obama admin that it should be mandatory to buy insurance?

And what about some insurances that consider pregnancy a pre existing condition? How does it not make sense to buy insurance after you are sick? What else should they do? Fall into debt? Cry out in the street after losing everything to pay off bills? Die in the street?

It is not right to leave them out to die just like that? They may be healthy one day and then be diagnosed with cancer the next. Brittney Murphy just dropped dead today.
