I have to go to Cali in a month to the south east desert part. I don’t know why people like that place. It’s not that bad in the winter. In the summer you might as well be in hell. I feel sorry for the people there

Now that fills me with envious wishes that I could truly be Californian.

Yes, but don't you think that Oregonians need to be chastised for our bad ways? And that the best way is to resurrect a chat forum thread that's been dead for 8 months?

And how about the fact that you can't pump your own gas in Oregon?

(sorry, couldn't resist, see 7 posts up).

Seriously, without the sarcasm, I think this anti-California thing died sometime between 1990 and 1995. The truth is the Californication of Oregon caused much more inflammation back in the 80's. Today I doubt most care about it, and the fact remains new residents come from many States, not all Californians.

I live in Beaverton where more than 75% of my neighbors are transplants and could care less if they are loved by locals. The people I have encountered that have made anti- CA commentary towards me were not from Oregon. I am amused when transplants hate other transplants.

That's how I always go about it. Am I going from resident alien to Oregonian? I'm hungry for some of that keynoir stuff now.

I am also in Beaverton and have noticed people coming in from all over the country. One of our new neighbors is from Massachusetts. :-)

I personally do not care where someone is from as long as they are nice. I am a almost 30 year transplant from PA by way of Seattle. Lived there about 3 years or so. Left because it was starting to get expensive. Wish I would of stayed as Seattle is so much a better city overall. But then I probably would not of met my soul mate and had our wonderful daughter. It sure took a little while to get use to driving in traffic in Seattle. At first it was very scary for me coming from a small city of about 100,000 and could drive all over the county in half an hour or less.

Right now I am a stay at home mom and I avoid driving anyplace in the afternoon. I do have to pick up my daughter on Thursdays from school, which is on 185th and Walker. If I leave at 2:40 I can usually get there by 3:15. I bring a book and wait for when she gets out at 3:30.

I'm a native Napa Ca lady and napa will always be home in my heart but just the same I hate going down there now.
Why!!!because I hate having to pump my own gas and people have gotten so rude..Its fun to go see family and old friends but better to get home...

Default IMHO, what really matters...

is not where you happened to live previously, but the attitudes you bring with you when you arrive in Oregon. Although I've lived in SF for 25+ years, and was born and raised in LA, I think I've always been an Oregonian in spirit.
