Easily the best defensive back in franchise history, along with Champ Bailey. And I include some great db's towards the past Bronco history, such as Bill Thompson, Louis Wright. He had been WAY overdue to get into the Hall.
There is more to Steve Atwater than his big hits, first would be the Chistian Okoye game and then SB-XXXII towards the last couple plays in the game.
I'm glad Steve Atwater got in, but I have to say, it's a disgrace it took this long. For a franchise as storied as the Broncos are, it certainly seems the long road to Canton goes through Denver.
Funny thing about Atwater is that even though I was a Bills fan, Atwater was the reason I chose #27 for my jersey number when I first started playing football in the 8th grade. After tryouts coach told me I would be a safety and Atwater was one of the best safeties at the time. This would have been '97 or '98. So I probably remembered him well from the two Super Bowls.
Bringing this thread up to date. The Broncos have been busy the last few weeks, here are the latest transactions:
Jurrell Casey, the Tennessee Titans defensive end has been acquired for a seventh round pick.
L.A. Chargers running back Melvin Gordon signed to a two year $9 million deal.
Detroit Lion punter Sam Martin was signed yesterday, don't know the specific figures right now.
You beat me to it, HH. I’ve been wanting to update this thread all week!
These are solid and low risk moves. Bringing in Melvin Gordon is perhaps the most controversial move, as well as the closest thing to a big splash FA acquisition. I actually like it. Love the Casey trade, the trade for Bouye looks good but can go either way, and I’m thrilled with the signing of Glasgow, formerly of Detroit.
Also, it’s sort of sad how excited I got about bringing Martin aboard. I’ve never seen a punter get it so consistently wrong as Wadman last year. That was hard to watch. Punting our of the end zone he’d get a 23 yard punt. Punting from midfield he’d blast one out of the back of the end zone. I wanted to sit down with him and try to explain how the punting game is supposed to work. Awful.
So far I’m pleased with the moves the team made. They’re in great shape cap-wise brought in some very complementary pieces.
They’re gonna need it with the defending Super Bowl Champs residing just next door!
I think our #1 pick has to be a receiver. Sutton is turning into a great player but neither he nor Hamilton or Patrick have the speed to take the tops off of defenses. I'd like to have Ruggs with that first pick.

Ruggs has been mocked to the Broncos multiple times, and I'd actually really be pleased with that pick. I'd also like to see them go after some OL talent as well. Get the makings of a young O-line that is going to grow up together and we'll be set for years.
