No phobias unless you count food that is still alive and moving. That I don't think I can do.

Other than that, I will certainly try anything, but that doesn't mean I love everything. There are certainly things I don't enjoy (eggplant, liver, beets to name a few) and won't choose for myself, but if I am served any of these things as a guest in someone's home, I will smile and eat away.

Ugh. This reminded me of a horrible meal plunked down in front of me at a locally famous seafood restaurant. I'm not a huge fan of some fin fish but I'll definitely eat it. Never met a mollusk or crabby thing I didn't love. A group of us had traveled to Charleston SC for training. The trainers recommended this place because the fish was fresh right off their own boats tied up in front of the dining area. The place was packed, the staff rushed, dismissive, and rude. I dutifully ordered some sort of flounder, their supposedly signature crab cakes, a couple other items. I swear the gills on that flounder were still quivering, it's flesh (including skin and scales) tough and rubbery, crab cakes were so salty they were inedible, the rest of the plate stank to high heaven of mudflats. Couldn't choke down anything but rice. The memory makes my toes curl even now.

OMG I will remember that if I ever do make it to Charleston or Myrtle Beach. I've really been wanting to go. But yeah, that is disgusting.

When I was pregnant with my first child, we went to Ensenada in Baja back when Hussong's was a big deal and a lot of people had their bumper on their cars. Talk about a Grade Z crowd! We went just to see what the hullabaloo was about.

Anyway, we ate at a restaurant right by the dock. I couldn't find anything on the menu I wanted to eat (it was almost all seafood). I finally settled on ravioli. It was horrible but at least it wasn't smelly fish! I was so afraid of "poisoning the baby" and/or barfing my guts out.

Bugs, and pets...meaning dogs or cats. You cannot make me eat that. I know some cultures do, but I'd be on my death bed before someone forced that down my parched throat.

It must have a lot to do with how you are raised, what your family had accepted. In the states, we don't eat bugs, and we don't eat our pets.

Deer, squirrel, wild North American animals, yes. Ate them as a kid. Anyone ever have Deer jerky? Awesome

I have eaten lizard/alligator. It's white meat (the tail) and quite tasty.

There are some conspiracy theories that allege bugs are being ground up and put into flour, supplements, etc. It is alleged that the proponents say "Hey the "so and so's" eat them why shouldn't we?"

Female Cochineal insects are used as a food coloring Ms. Pathrunner. Red, and we've all eaten it whether we'd like to admit it or not. Today, I believe we use a different source for that red dye, but believe me, if you're over 25, you've eaten those red bug shells

Right, but I bet that most of you ate flour mites. They are quite common.
Flour mites are very small insects in flour that are almost invisible to the naked eye. They have white bodies and brown coloured legs and usually live in flours, grains and cereals.
They're often found in dry foods such as sugar, flour, powdered milk and semolina.

And there are also almost invisible cheese mites.
Cheese Mites are from the same family as the Flour Mites. They are very often found in cheeses, which has given them their name....

Yes, Ms. Elnina. Thanks to this website, I have learned how to get rid of them. Put Bay leaves in the flour. Someone posted that over in the food forum yrs. ago. I took their advice, and it works!

*Yes, I put them in the cereals and sugar too. It really does work.

LOL thanks for the reminder.

Also, I meant I wouldn't eat anchovies when I was younger. I would probably eat them now, but they wouldn't be my first choice.

Yes, my understanding is that diatomaceous earth is used in rice, flour, etc. to stave off bugs.
