My son moved to Port Charlotte last year for a job, and has had little success meeting people to befriend or girls to date close to his age (He's 24). He plays volleyball with some locals he's met-they are older & married & the few acquaintances he's made at work don't really socialize outside of work. He's very lonely and increasingly depressed. He's tried a few meet-up groups near Sarasota & Fort Myers, but each attempt he's made had been unsuccessful & he grows more depressed. Any ideas where a young man can meet people his own age in the PC/PG area? It breaks my heart when we speak.

Sailing club?? I helped a young lady change her flat tire on the side of the road in PG. She said she was coming from an outing with a sailing club she belonged to. If I were single and 25 years younger.....?

What about Dean's? There's a group called Zombie University that play there and when they do it's a younger crowd. What about this website? Meetups near Sarasota, Florida - Meetup This group is called Sarasota 20's & 30's : 20s and 30s of Sarasota (Sarasota, FL) - Meetup What about a gym or fitness class?

Thank you for the responses. He has traveled to Sarasota for several meet-up events. I've suggested he start his own meet-up too. He's a little introverted, and going to bars alone is difficult for him. I've suggested a gym. That is a good idea. Keep the suggestions coming, please :-)

The BEACH! There's always some younger folks at the beach! But if he's extremely introverted, it may not do him any good if he's just going to sit back and watch. Introverts generally don't have many friends because they're too shy to make an attempt...

Try your local Starbucks or other coffee house. They tend to attract a good younger crowd. Bring lap top and mingle. At worst, you can enjoy the coffee and possibly get sone work done at the same time.

Have him join a volunteer group or a club. I belong to 3 car clubs and I volunteer with the Gulf Coast Golden Retriever Rescue. We have all ages. What are his interests? He could volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, or Fire/EMS. I know they have some younger people. Sometimes Parks and Recreation looks for volunteers too.
United Way, Virginia B. Andes, Hospitals, Animal Welfare League, Adult Learning Center, Schools, Big Brother Big Sister, Homeless Coalition, and so much more.

Here is a link to the Charlotte County Volunteer page. There are several types of organizations to choose from. Volunteers

Volunteer to serve on a Board - Charlotte County Request for Volunteers

Another option is join a church.

Nearly every restaraunt or bar has young servers. Does he work?

Not suggesting just to meet people, but walking a dog is a good way to meet people. Maybe he can borrow (dog walking service?) neighbors pets to walk..
Volunteering at a nature preserve or animal shelter.
Fishing/kayaking/SUP clubs
Bars are not the answer..

Good luck
