Sure, no problem although I think we were keeping it COVID in the Triangle related.
I don't disagree that we we're keeping it Triangle related.
Admittedly it could become an entire discussion on its own, and don't want to cannibalize this thread for that (which is still providing some good reading/information/discussion)
Apparently WCPSS will now be adding one "asynchronous learning" day per week, which will be applicable to both virtual academy and plan B students. This asynchronous day will be different every week, cause you know, might as well make it as difficult for families as absolutely possible.

Just saw this in the letter they texted...and tried to make sense of it before I put my kid to bed but failed.

Yup, lets bring kids back to in person and pick a day not to teach them, just brilliant. I have no idea who complained about too much live online learning, but if they are on here, Thanks!

I saw the text from them but was admittedly mulittasking getting my son down.
Is that what that term meant in practical terms? Good lawd

The asynchronous day is mainly due to teacher complaints:
Moore warned that reopening for in-person classes will be a burden for some teachers who have to juggle teaching the face-to-face classes and online classes, as well as the Virtual Academy courses. Teachers have complained that it’s taking more time to plan their online lessons than it did their in-person ones.
“Our teachers and administrators have worked themselves to exhaustion to make remote learning successful for tens of thousands of children, and I’m sure they will do again what has to be done for Plan B as we move towards returning to fully in-person instruction,†Moore said.
“But we need to publicly acknowledge that they do not have the resources that are needed to succeed at the levels that we know are needed.â€
To help teachers as well as families concerned about too much screen time, the plan calls for one “asynchronous learning day†each week where students wouldn’t attend in-person classes or go online for live instruction. Instead, Wake says teachers can assign a variety of activities and include instructional resources such as recorded instructional videos, assigned activities, off-line assignments or meeting with small groups.
Chapel Hill has an asynchronous day every Wednesday, and me and my kids really like it. I actually put it down on a recent survey as something I thought the district was doing right during remote learning. I saw some parents complained about it though when they sent out the results of the survey. I don't understand why. We couldn't keep up without it. The kids can work on assignments, and we all get a bit of a break from the schedule.
That paragraph implies that one day a week of in person learning, kids will not go in. If they are on a 3 week schedule then they will only go in 4 days. If they go in full time, how will that work. Teachers do not normally get a day off when they are full time in person.
Principals are complaining about going back, they don't seem to be listening to that.

Does CH have kids at the schools at all? Is the asynchronous day on a different day every week?
The asynchronous day means that those going to school will have one day where they can't. That makes scheduling pretty difficult for parents, especially when it's a different day every week. It lacks logic.
