Thought you might be interested. The Triangle area has again been featured as a hot area in the national media. You can read the article here (http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/may2007/db20070523_596019.htm?chan=top+news_top+news+index _after+work - broken link) as well as in other places all over the web today.
Good catch Cary_NC! First we had Lamishra on WRAL TV and now Mike is quoted in the national media! What's next? Maybe one of our forum members will be making an appearance on Dancing With The Stars Next Season!
I want to thank my wife who stood beside me through thick and thin, the cat, my parents, the Academy, and all the great people who made this moment possible...
"I talked to some folks today who are moving here because that's where the grandkids are," says Mike Jaquish, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty in Cary, N.C. and a town resident.
That is my master plan! "No, Grandma & Grandpa, you don't want to retire in FL. Move to NC!"
Congratulations Mike. Good article. I notice it's using Sperling's statistics ( discussed on another thread.) Also, they're still using Raleigh-Durham instead of Raleigh-Cary. I thought that had been changed.
"In the final part of our four-part series on America's Best Affordable Suburbs in the U.S. by region—the first installment was on suburbs in the Northeast, the second on suburbs in the West, and the third on suburbs in the Midwest—the places on our list of the Best Affordable Suburbs in the South, compiled with Portland, (Ore.)-based research group Sperling's Best Places, have the best combination of affordability and quality that we have seen in any U.S. region."

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but I am not familiar with the issue of refering to some of the Triangle area as Raleigh-Cary instead of the usual Raleigh- Druham. Just so I am clear on the issue could you elaborate on what you mean? Thanks!
Good Article...but I have to say that when I read it I was a little surprised to see that the cost of living index was a dozen or so points above the national avg. I think this has changed some since I last looked in detail. Still a lot less that the Lowell, MA area that I will be moving from. Everything else looked to be right on based on what I've been researching. I guess if you move to the area and bring a decent amount of equity with you to put down on a Raleigh area home then that takes care of the cost of living issue for some. They didn't show the rating for quality of life which seems to also be above avg.
Interesting article, but what is this supposed to mean?
Quote:
Despite the boom, Cary still doesn't feel like a big city. Maybe that's because it lacks big-city prices—half of all the homes in Cary are priced below the median home price of $375,000.
Not sure what that's meant to tell us except perhaps GIVING US THE DEFINITION OF MEDIAN?!?

NRG,
The Census Bureau has divided the Triangle.
the SMSA, Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area, used to be Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill for Census purposes.
Now there are two SMSA's:
Raleigh-Cary
and Durham-Chapel Hill.
That's sure to mess up statistics for some time to come.
