I think people should stop having sex so soon after meeting. Or never, with some. Ohhh, and what has it become in recent years? -- "Friends with Benefits"..so helpful.
What doesn't help, are movies depicting couples doing this and then, unlike in Life, ends up being a story "all about love", with the male stating his feelings ...though having barely known each other. Likely, girls are buying this. (Someone needs to put a stop to creating these movies).
Young girls, getting involved initially, do so for emotional reasons.. males do it for..... ("err..sorry... it just felt so good").

If she asked where things were, it's because she wanted to know what to expect from the relationship. Was it going to be casual, or were you both working toward more. With the bolded, if she wanted to work toward an actual relationship, and you didn't, then that's not fun for her, especially if she ends up really attached to you, and becomes heart-broken.
Some women get emotional when it comes to sex. FWB can turn messy for some. Like some women who start off casual, but get attached somewhere down the line. Then they start the plotting. Wanting to know how they can make the guy love them, or get serious with them. The jealousy starts, arguing, her demanding more attention, wanting to know who you're with, etc.
Not all FWB end up that way. Some go on for years with nobody getting attached more than just friends. But in alot of cases, someone ends up too attached and the drama, or games, start. So wanting something casual is probably something you need to start mentioning to women early on.
So if this woman didn't take that well, just means she spared you both alot of trouble, because she was probably going to get attached later. Otherwise, she may not have asked you anything and just continued with the casual sex.
In many cases when people ask "Where/What are we?" they usually are wondering, and hoping, things are progressing. But in other cases, they wanna be sure things are staying the same, and not complicating. But the former seems to be the case more times it seems.
